The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Enugu State Government are intensifying preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged the ‘Coal City Games 2026, Enugu 2026’, with the Main Organising Committee (MOC) scheduled to undertake a comprehensive inspection of sports facilities and other critical infrastructure in Enugu.
Coal City Games 2026 Inspection Scheduled For August 26–27
The MOC delegation is expected to arrive in Enugu on August 25, 2026, while the inspection exercise will take place on August 26 and 27. The programme will culminate in the unveiling of the official Coal City Games 2026 logo and mascot by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) on August 28, 2026.
According to the NSC, the inspection is aimed at assessing the readiness of competition and training venues, accommodation facilities, transportation and logistics arrangements, supporting infrastructure, as well as other operational requirements critical to the successful hosting of the Games.
MOC To Assess Facilities, Logistics And Accommodation
The exercise will also provide an opportunity for the MOC and LOC to review the progress of preparations, identify areas requiring attention and agree on appropriate measures to ensure that the necessary facilities and operational structures are delivered within the required timelines.

Director General of the National Sports Commission and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee of the Coal City Games, Hon. Bukola Olopade, will lead the NSC delegation to Enugu State for the inspection exercise.
The inspection forms part of the Commission’s continued engagement with the Enugu State Government to ensure that preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival remain on course and meet the required standards for hosting Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event.

The National Sports Commission remains confident that the collaborative efforts of the MOC and LOC will contribute to the successful delivery of the 23rd National Sports Festival, the Coal City Games, in line with internationally accepted standards and further strengthen Nigeria’s rich sporting heritage.
