Collins, Abdullahi Still Unfit; To Miss Super Eagles – Madagascar Clash

Super Eagles defenders, Jamilu Collins and Shehu Abdullahi are unavailable for Nigeria’s final AFCON Group B match against the Barea of Madagascar on Sunday, due to injuries, reports Completesports.com.

Collins who trained separately from the rest of the squad on Friday has been sidelined since picking up an injury in training on the eve of Super Eagles’ tournament opener against Burundi last week Saturday.

The SC Paderborn of Germany defender started running for the first time on Friday and also did drills involving the ball and cones before heading off for some gym work

Abdullahi, on the other hand, started Nigeria’s first game against Burundi but was substituted three minutes before break after picking up an injury.

He is yet to resume full training with his teammates.

“Collins and Abdullahi are still out but they are recovering well. We don’t want to take risks with them tomorrow,” Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr told reporters in Alexandria on Saturday.

In the absence of Collins, Torino defender Ola Aina, has filled in at left-back, while Chidozie Awaziem has featured at the right-back position in place of Abdullahi.

Thank God Ola Aina is in top shape.
What type of injury is Collins nursing since now?.
The match against Madagascar would have been a great test for is fitness and afford Ola a rest before the playoff matches begin proper.

  • Omeruo remains my man of the moment with that powerful headed goal against Guinea.

This was reminiscent of his under 17 goal against Germany in 2009 featured in the documentary below.

At some point, Omeruo’s International career was in jeopardy due to inconsistency in club football and occasional lapses of concentration in national team colours.

It is now safe to say that Omeruo has come of age.

He joins the illustrious list of defenders who offer veritable goal threat for the team.

    Omeruo, I salute.

Men, na waya ooo. This kain injury sef. A week to the tournament, this two guys were fit! This kind of misfortune…..I just don’t know. The dropping of SEMI AJAYI is looking more and more like a big blunder. I hope it doesn’t cost us as the tournament progresses! Anyway, still supporting the coach and the team…..TO THE END!
