Paderborn consolidated on second position in the table with 57 points from 33 matches going into the final game of the season next weekend.

Steffen Baumgart’s men will travel to Dynamo Dresden for their final game where a win will ensure promotion to the Bundesliga.

Their main rival for the automatic promotion spot, Union Berlin also defeated Magdeburg 3-0 on Sunday.

Union Berlin have amassed 56 points from 33 games and need Paderborn to slip up on the final day to move ahead of them on the log.

So many people criticize Rohr’s decision when he first invited this guy to the national team, saying a division three player should not play for the Super Eagles. I am happy that he kept improving day by day and here he is, hopefully will be playing in the Bundesliga next season. Keep your head up Jamilu Collins!

    • Walking 5 years ago

Without mincing words, the guy has always had a great game whenever he plays for the super eagles..
He also has couple of assists to his name(if I’m right)

Carry on, Jamilu. The Bundesliga is calling!

Your are right, even though many fans still critiscize Rohr, yet all his post world cup addition to the team has really improved the team and provided more options. Both the known and the unknown callups has been massive for the Super Eagles.

    1. Collins – our best left back at the moment

    2. Semi Ajayi – A dependable center back or midfielder. With 8 goals in all competition. (Highest no. goals from a nigerian defender/midfielder)

    3. Kalu – A great winger with great runs, dribbling skills and superb crosses has added bite to our attack

    4. Osimen – scorings goal with ease, will definitely become the main sticker for Super Eagles in future.

    5. Onuachu – Another prolific Striker, that has increased the competition up front.

    6. Chukwueze, the no. one teenage sensation in Africa at the moment. 12th most valuable teenager in the world ahead of Chelsea odoi

All post world cup additions. Welldone Rohr.

Ikeben. You can say that again. Emerging the trajectory of progress and the quality of talents added since the Mundial. The SuperEagles are now the favorite to win the AFCON despite not having a superstar. This is simply due to the plethora of talents scattered around the globe and it takes a coach with an Eagle eye for talents to identify them. I don’t need a soothsayer to Convince me that those discoveries after the WorldCup are not on merit or that they’re not the best Nigeria can provide at the moment. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE. AFCON SPIRIT LOADING.

No wonder coach Rohr has enhanced the Nigeria super eagle to # 3 from the woeful 10 position in Africa ratings post World Cup.

the NFF is really appreciative of Mr. Rohr professional efforts . His pay is now commiserate with what his pears earns in other parts of African Countries.

Million of Nigerians have much respects for the Coach. When last has Nigeria lost a match to an Africa Country.?

  • Adisboy 5 years ago

Spot on guys. But what still baffles me are some Nigerians claiming Rohr is not inviting our BEST players. I wonder who those players are and where they play. For me, we are in our best period and have the best collection of players since the 1990’s.

  • _Rohr Casualties_

Whilst it is unarguable that certain players have been introduced international football by Rohr while others have thrived, there are those players who will not look at Rohr’s reign with fondness because the German has banished them to international wilderness. Others have had their national team career stall under Rohr.

These players would believe that under any other coach, they would be full blown internationals (or would have continue to flourish in their international career)

_Players out in the cold (part 1)_

    Defense:

    1) Theophilus Afelokhai (1 invite, 0 cap) : with all three Super Eagles goalkeepers dropping the ball with their form, Theo would have expected to be given game-time when he was invited to the team last year.

His expectations failed to materialise as he languished on the bench and has been out in the cold since.

    2) Musa Mohammed (2 caps, no goals): to Rohr’s credit, the German hands invitation to players based in China, Cyprus, Nigeria and those that play division 2 football.

So, with Musa Mohammed (an early Rohr prospect) playing regularly and thriving in Croatia’s Premier league, he would have expected to add to his Rohr-given 2 super eagles caps by now.

The under-17 world cup winner is rooted to just 2 caps.

    3) Efe Ambrose (51 caps, 4 goals): Just prior to Rohr’s appointment, Efe was slowly becoming a better goal threat scoring a beauty in the high profile friendly against Cameroon.

Also, after the German became Super Eagles gaffer, Efe signed for Hibbs and was arguably Nigeria’s most consistent and experienced defender.

Yet, he was sensationally snubbed by the German so much so that it is now safe to refer to Efe as an ex-international.

    4) Stephen Eze (11 caps – mainly with Super Eagles B team) : this beast of a defender would have expected to feature more for the Super Eagles ‘A’ team.

He has sometime to wait yet.

  • _Out in the cold (part 2)_

    Midfield:

    5) Uche Agbo (1 cap,0 goal): this Spanish based versatile midfielder has become something a perennial training material under coach Rohr.

Considering the number of times that the German has invited Agbo, it is shocking that he has played so few games.

At least before he was being invited. Now, Agbo is effectively out in the cold.

    6) Michael Babatunde (17 caps, 2 goals): this versatile midfielder/winger was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the 2014 world cup in Brazil.

Media outlets like Complete Sports Nigeria and goals.com predicted great things for Babatunde.

    But Rohr had other ideas.

While Babatunde has flourished in club football, he has not featured for Nigeria since Rohr tooK over. His prospects continue to look bleak under the German.

Well stated;.but I think most of the players highlighted on your list were let down by their own strides, they haven’t really developed as much to replace the ones there right now.and you can only have as much in a team.
    1. Afelokhai was actually one of the best in the league,if not the best, but since then I think he has stalled, others have overshadowed him.

2.Musa Mohammed was given a starting role in Rohr’s first matches and really didn’t do well to justify his further inclusion in the team.and those ahead of him now,are simply better.

    3. Efe Ambrose is past his prime.we all know that.unless we are bound by sentiments.yes he did good in Scotland, but the Super Eagles have moved on.we thank him for his service.

    4. Stephen Eze moved to locomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria, called to the main team and after some training sections, don’t think he is really ripe for the main Eagles; not with players like Awaziem ,Omeruo still ahead..
    His time would come, hopefully.

    5. Agbo is just a decent player.he is really not settled in the club level, plays more like a mercenary.besides,we got better players ahead.Ogu,Ajayi,..

6.Michael Babatunde is just getting back in the frame with his move to Wydad.he is more like Agbo above, moving from place to place;from Dnipro Ukraine(2games),to Raja Casablanca (5games),then to Qatar sc(10 games),he is just getting settled right now. it would be totally unfair,if we expect Rohr to have invited him earlier than now,(if he is going to be invited).

I think one player missed out was Kayode in Shaktar doneskt, who had a good outing in Austrai, played good when he came on against South Africa in Uyo; but injury hasn’t been fair to him .

If I would think anybody that should be invited ,that hasn’t really gotten the chance under Rohr; players like, Odey (fc Zurich),Blessing Eleke( Luzern),Azubuike Okechukwu,as well..
But I know it is going to be hard for any cause of the quality we have right now .

So let’s just see how it goes…

    • Thank you so much Mr Hush.

Whilst I wouldn’t disagree with your points (which I have actually learnt one or two things from),some of the players I highlighted have done well for themselves.

I am just too happy that we have a large pool of players to pick from at this point in time.

      Cheers.

  • _Players out in the cold (part 3)_

    Attack:

    7) Aminu Umar (4 caps, 0 goals): after decent showings at the 2016 Olympics, Umar was expected to be one of the main-stays of the Super Eagles moving forward.

His career in Turkey hasn’t been that bad either where his pace and panache has caused problems.

However, his performances have failed to grab the attention of Rohr who continues to ignore the dashing winger.

    8) Imoh Ezekiel (1 cap, 0 goal): another player who had a fabulous Olympics in 2016 only to fail (thus far) to make a breakthrough to full Super Eagles status.

In fact, how this highly gifted striker/winger only has one cap for the Super Eagles is beyond many observers.

    9) Sylvester Igboun (6 caps, 0 goals): what a player! Speed, agility, pace, power, dribbling abilities, goals scoring, Igboun has in spades.

The 28 year old continues to do his thing week in week out in Russia but Rohr couldn’t care less.

      @ deo

You are right with the fact that we are spoilt for choice with players right now.
We got players doing good right now.

Syl Igbuono has really improved, doing well for Ufa.

Aminu Umar as well improving in Turkey.

Not forgetting Chuba Akpom ,who won the league in Greece with Paok, being an integral part of the team.

So it can only mean well for us…

  • Edoman. 5 years ago

Rohr can not invite every body to the Team at the same time.

So far so good for the Nation.

The problem area at present is the Goalkeeping. Imo.
