Copa America: Nunez Faces Lengthy Ban From Football After Clash With Colombia Fans

Liverpool striker, Darwin Nunez, could face a lengthy ban after he clashed with supporters in the stands following Uruguay’s Copa America semi-final defeat by Colombia on Wednesday.

According to Daily Mail, South American governing body CONMEBOL will determine the severity of any international sanction for Nunez, who was among the Uruguay players involved in altercations with Colombia supporters in Charlotte, USA.

FIFA could decide to extend any ban to domestic football.

Liverpool are working to establish the facts and it is understood their football leadership team intend to get in touch with Nunez as soon as possible.

A skirmish behind the Uruguay bench saw a group of supporters clash with Colombia fans, with Uruguay players climbing into the stands to join the skirmish.

It took more than 10 minutes for police to restore order.

CONMEBOL stated: “There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field.

“We invite everyone to pour all their passion into cheering on their teams and having an unforgettable party.”
