Covid-19 Rules: UK Govt Almost Ruined Super Eagles Plans -Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has accused the UK government of planning to ruined his Super Eagles plans by imposing a strict COVID-19 regulations that will make it impossible for some key members of his squad to feature in the crucial World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde.

Rohr, who is expected to have the full squad available for the first game against Liberia, stated this in an interview with Daily Record.

He claimed that England tweaked their regulations to ensure a smooth Euros earlier this year.

“They were able to change everything at the Euros when England hosted it, but they can’t do anything here for the World Cup players.

“All our midfielders will not be there. Our central defence also will not be there. So it will not be easy against a very difficult team like Cape Verde,” Rohr said.

To be honest the UK are just using this regulations to favor their football clubs so that they won’t be obligated to release their key players during this pandemic period. SuperEagles should be able to get all 3 points in Lagos against Liberia. However, the most crucial match in this window is the away tie in Cape Verde. The NFF need to take some clubs to FIFA in order to allow our UK based players feature in match day 2. Now Aribo is being ruled out based on precautions. Anyway this could be an opportunity to see some other players who can compete for a spot in the team.

  • I say it is possible to post a good team against liberia and cape verde even with all these sanctions of uk players to red zone areas. My only concern is the midfield. I dont know why coach rohr didn’t invite alhassan yusuf and nwobodo obinna for this game, the midfield would have been a bit stable. But im guessing he wants to pack that area with DMs and use the wings. Maybe even pack the bus. I just hope the replacement players can hold their own.

We have got Shehu,Bonke and Michael for the midfield.Rohr should have called up Nwobodo at least to swell the numbers as well precautions should there be injuries in that department.
Apparently,we are traveling to a good side like the Cape Verde with a depleted squad, very very unfortunate.I hope we are able to get a result.
In my opinion FIFA should cancel the world cup, because if some of his members are unable to play without their best players so what’s the point because it is unfair to the affected teams.

It is normal for the UK government to have some restrictions.

If I were Oga Rohr in this situation, I will have a larger list of players for world cup qualifiers.

UK based players and other players from another European countries and also in Africa to be on standby list.

Mark my words, most of our regular players may not be available for most of our world cup qualifiers. That is for sure. We may be lucky this time but it is better to plan ahead of this Covid-19 pandemic.

The gaffer should get Nwakali, Dessers, Yakubu and other irregular players involved.

However, I won’t be rigid if I’m the gaffer. I will have to have the best three players for each position.

Same thing for goal keeping department. I will organize unofficial three to five friendly matches for Super Eagles within Nigeria with the top five teams in NPFL.

Instead of relying on Uk based players, I will have my mind at rest because I have the best of the best three players for each position.

UK government is not Nigerian Government that have no human feelings for their people. A lawless country that called Nigeria? A country that doesn’t have good health care, even our president ran to the UK for treatment is that a country?

A country that loves to punish whoever that working for the government.

People are dying unexpectedly every day like butterflies while the Nigerian government is less concerned, is that a country or something else?

We are hearing Covid-19 pandemic all over the world but I have never heard of hunger pandemic and insecurity pandemic but only in Nigeria.

Please Oga Rohr, stop complaining and have another plan in place because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

I don’t want to hear excuses bla bla bla because it won’t change anything. Be prepared for the challenges ahead of the Super Eagles.

If other top football countries are having the same challenges and making adjustments why Nigeria can not adjust?

It is time to make the move because we can’t afford not to qualify to the next world in Qatar.

I love you Oga Rohr that is the reason why I am sending you a warning. It is never too late to have plan B available for our Super Eagles.

The gaffer should take the advantage of having fantastic players around the world to get Nigeria one of the world cup tickets available for Africa. No room for errors or excuses. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

“… I will organize unofficial three to five friendly matches for Super Eagles within Nigeria with the top five teams in NPFL….”

      LMAOoooo.

You will organize unofficial friendly matches…..LMAOOOo….when your salary has not been paid for 7 months…..for players whose clubs will not release them for engagements outside FIFA windows….LMAOOoo.

NFF that cannot pay bonuses for 2 years, nor pay hotel as and when due, will fly players down to Nigeria and camp them for unofficial friendly matches

      Talk is cheap.

Ogogoro no get respect, e dey disgrace person anywhere anyhow…..LMAOOoo

“Mark my words, most of our regular players may not be available for most of our qualifiers”

Oga, Cape Verde is the only country in our group listed by UK govt for covid 19 rule, CAR and Liberia are not listed. So why our regular players will not be available?

If from a population of 200 million Nigeria cannot field 11 men to beat Cape Verde, then we do not deserve to be at the World Cup

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Where they 100million people in CapeVerde when you played 0-0 with them in 2012…?

I suppose China, India and US should be rotating the world cup trophy amongst themselves while the rest of the world stands by and watch then.

I never knew population figures play football. Dont go and prepare very well….LMAOOoo

@Dr Drey, I must commend you on this one. Your comments are always logical, precise and straight to the point. Your ability to distill falsehood in another’s statement is second to none. I will be reading someone’s comments and be agreeing until you counter him. I’m so impressed.
Honestly I really wish you were against Rohr, it would have made a good debate arguing with you. Not the one I will be explaining to a bigot why Rohr is the right man. Or the one that claims that Rohr is tactically inept, but lists a Isaac success ahead of a team’s captain.
