Cyprus Women’s Cup: Super Falcons Vow To Recover Against Slovakia

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have promised to rise from their 4-1 loss to Austria and get back to winning ways against Slovakia in their second group match of the 2019 Cyprus International Women’s Cup, Completesports.com reports.

The Super Falcons’ slump against Austria on Wednesday was occasioned by a fifth minute sending off of goalkeeper, Tochukwu Oluehi but Coach Thomas Dennerby’s lasses believe they will fare better today.

They have resolved to put behind them the disappointment of their scandalous opening defeat by Austria in order to put their campaign back on track against another European side.

This pledged is contained in a message on the Super Falcons’ official Twitter handle in which the team’s media department affirmed that the players will bounce back to reckoning against Slovakia.

The Tweet reads: “No hope lost yet, we will fight to bounce back against Slovakia on Friday. #SoarSuperFalcons #CyprusWomensCup #Team9jaStrong #NGAAUT.”

  • Dennerby’s ladies are making a habit of losing opening matches in competitions.

    – In the 2018 Afcon, they lost their opening match to South Africa 1:0.

    – In the China women’s invitational tournament, they lost 3:0 to China.

    – While in this tournament, they lost the opening match in scandalous fashion crashing 4:1 to Austria.

So, out of a possible 9 points from opening day matches in the past 3 months, Dennerby’s ladies have accumulated 0 point, scoring 1 goal while conceding 8 goals to teams from 3 continents: Africa, Asia and Europe.

With the world cup less than 3 months away, these are worrying times……

    • **they have managed to accumulate 0 point out of a possible 9 points from three opening day matches to underscore the perception that they are slow starters**
