Daly Plans Wasps Departure

England full-back Elliot Daly has confirmed he will leave Wasps at the end of the season. The 26-year-old has triggered a release clause in his contract and it is believed he will join Wasps’ Premiership rivals Saracens ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Some reports have suggested that Daly’s decision to leave Wasps is related to the club’s struggles to find a permanent training facility since their move to the Ricoh Arena in 2014.

However, the British and Irish Lions star, who scored England’s second try during their Six Nations victory over Ireland at the weekend, has been quick to dismiss those reports.

“This has been one of the most difficult decisions of my life,” Daly told the club’s website. “Despite some of the rumours flying around, the training ground has nothing to do with why I’ve come to my decision to leave.

I simply feel it is the right time for me to seek a new challenge next season after the World Cup. “Wasps will always have a special place in my heart and I will certainly be giving everything to the jersey to try and finish the season strongly.”

Daly is the third player to announce that he will be leaving Wasps at the end of the season, as his fellow England international Nathan Hughes has agreed to join Bristol Bears, while South Africa back Willie le Roux has also decided to move on.
