Dessers Ready To Dump Nigeria For Belgium

Cyriel Dessers is still interested in playing for Belgium despite already committing his international future to Nigeria, reports Completesports.com.

Dessers, 24, was born in Leuven to a Belgian father and qualifies for Nigeria through his mother.

The Genk striker was set to make his debut for Nigeria in March, but the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone was called off as result of the outbreak of the Covid-19.

The former NAC Breda striker is now ready to wait till September, when Belgium will be on duty, to make a final decision on his international future.

“One of my best friends is a video analyst of the Red Devils (Belgium), so I sometimes catch up on something, but I have not yet spoken to Roberto Martinez myself,” Dessers told Het Belang van Limburg.

“I now focus on Genk and make goals, the rest will come naturally. That has always been my motto. At the moment, the national team is not an issue, we will not know until September.

“Maybe I will be summoned somewhere, maybe not.”

Dessers was joint top scorer with 15 goals in the Dutch League last season.

He joined Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk in June after spending just a season with Heracles Almelo.

Does this boy really knows where his heart belongs to?

I thought it was a mere fallacy yesterday when I saw this news on sportinglife.ng. Someone must have been there trying to change your initial and authentic plans towards this great national…
I hope you won’t fall for it at the end sha..

Those two nigerians at his club, who see him as threat to their invitation to SE will not be far from this expression of uncertainty if ever this story is true.

  • Oakfield 4 years ago

Well oga Dessers, it’s a good thing u showed interest in playing for us but if u decide to do otherwise in the future, it is well with us and would never be bad with us. Gone are the days we begged people to come play for us. Our talents flow like a fountain, it’s endless. In fact, na u even need us pass sef.

  • Tancosports 4 years ago

Choosing Belgium ahead of Nigeria will reduce the burden of players selection of GR. We have too many point man striker to choose from. Apart from Osimhen, iheanacho and desser hinslef. We still have Sodiq Umar, Josh Maja, Simmy nwakwo and host of other young players waiting for invitations.

  • GLORY 4 years ago

We should not play into the hands of those who feel the threat he, Dessers brings, regarding them being invited to the SE, by helping them to discourage this lad. He truly wanna play for nigeria but I suspect lots of fowl play from those whose position is being threatened and I won’t join in their evil plot. I’d rather keep supporting Dessers. For whatever that evil plot is, it will surely fail. SUPER DESSERS IS FOR NIGERIA N ALL GOOD NIGERIANS ARE WITH YOU DESSERS.

  • OBIOHA 4 years ago

Wetin be his problem now. He better stick to Nigeria.

  • Tancosports 4 years ago

Our next selection should be like this.

    Troost Ekong
    Leo Balogun
    Semi Ajayi
    Awaziem Chidozie
    Ehiezube
    Ola Aina
    Jamilu Collins

    Midfielders

    Wilfred Indidi
    Joe Aribo
    Alex iwobi
    Etebo Karo
    Azeez Ramon
    Ovie Ejaria

    Forward

    Vic Osimhen
    Kelechi Iheanacho
    Simy Nwakwo
    Samuel Chukwueze
    Simon Moses
    Ahmed Musa
    Samuel Kalu

  • Genk is in the Belgium league, so mans is close to home. This is similar to Leroy sane, he left for Bayern Munich when he part of German national team. I hope dessers does pick Belgium so other home grown Nigerians can get a chance, like Josh Maja and Dennis. Even if dessers gets picked that wont help the super eagles. How many of you have even see dessers play? The problem is Nigerians and their ego’s. They are never satisfied with the players they got and want all the mixed/biracial Africans to play for Africa. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa, yet cant get past the first round in the world cup, what a shame. Had Dennis and Maja join, then gets replaced by a mixed Nigerian.

    • Vitalis 4 years ago

China and India has more population than Nigeria. Where are they in the world of football? Its not all about population.

  • Olusegun.B. 4 years ago

A moment ago Dessers was so eager to play for the Super Eagles only for to later say he wants to play for the Red devils of Belgium. Truth is does he really know what he wants . And again using the Nigeria super Eagles as a bargaining chip to attract the attention of Belgium ain’t cool at all . Nevertheless , I believe he’s a man who should be able to make a precise choice on where he really wants to pitch his tent either Nigeria or Belgium.

Nigeria have incredible players . All that matters is build a team to be a force to be reckon with in world football .

There’s a striker name Tolu Arokodare who’s being likened to Victor Oshimen. I’ve seen his game and he’s really good . I heard Anderlecht is interested in Him .should he use the platform to perform well he can make it to the national team and fight for a place . He can be another strike partner to Oshimen or be the future player on a long run.

I have no worries , there are many players scattered across the globe who are eager to want to play for the Super Eagles.

I wish Dessers the best on his choice .

  • Edoman 4 years ago

This guy is not a big deal. Let him do whatever he wants to do. Nigeria will not miss him more than he will miss Nigeria. Nigeria has put the ball on the table for him. Take it or live it.

  • WOW,
i never saw this one coming.
this is the guy that was expresing his joy back in march when he was called up saying “he couldn’t sleep till the news was confirmed” and that “his mother was in tears of joy when he told her about the call up”.

i never knew it was a fluke.
now even if he plays for nigeria,i won’t have that respect i had for him initialy.
i mean if he realy wants to play for us he could have been bold enough to tell the whole world what his intensions are(playing for the SE).

any ways we are blessed with so much talent in that position,
if his mind is not 100percent in the SE then he should better find his way elsewhere.
    TEAM 9JA STRONG

    • Relax it’s a lie, he was quoted out of context

      • Chidiomimi 4 years ago

Has he come out to say that? Until then, I have no respect for him again.

  • Michael 4 years ago

I think you guys should understand that he only made a political speech by saying “At the moment, the national team is not an issue, we will not know until September,
“Maybe I will be summoned somewhere, maybe not.”
He is now playing his club football in Belgium and he will be careful not to offend the press and the people of Belgium. If I were in his shoes I would say the same thing, he has not said he will not play for Nigeria so we ought to be patient enough, he has already chosen Nigeria.

    • GLORY 4 years ago

Good and sensible talk @ Michael. I bet many here are savouring this make up story as they have always seen Dessers as a threat to their “own” ever getting a call up to the SE. LOL They have failllled as Dessers is already super eagle.

    • JOSIAH 4 years ago

Michael your the one making sence here I like your comment let’s wait and see

  • Let him go if he wants to go.

  • Samson 4 years ago

He only said the obvious that it is possible that he will be called on to play in September. He did not say he was no longer playing for Super Eagles.
Let us be quick to read and digest slowly before we comment

  • World cup soon come and they still juggling players on who to pick. I bet nobody ever seen Dessers play. For the past year I hear people trying to scout Philip Billing and Joshua Zirkzee, what a shame. Soon the whole team not gonna have native Africans.

  • Omo9ja 4 years ago

This news is very complicated and hasn’t been confirmed from the player himself from CSN yet.

For that reason, I won’t rush to blame Dessers but I hope CSN will get in touch with Dessers soon. CSN over to you.

However, its been a while I heard from Huddah, Deo, Mr. Hush. I hope they are doing well? God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

This is the true definition of a TRAITOR! WOW. Am Shocked. Same guy that was singing Nigeria’s name before he got invited saying he watched Jay-Jay Okocha and adore Nigeria ballers..this and that! Is now saying this.

I knew since he was going back home -Belgium- and if he kept same goal scoring form, they’ll surely look at his side. Now it’s better he just go. Even if he later plays for SE, I won’t have a dime of respect for him again. Never. So bad Dessers..u take us shine abi?? The repercussion that follows your mates e.g Tammy awaits you.

  • Chima E Samuels 4 years ago

A friend of mine in Leige Belgium says that Onuachu and Odey told him how Naija players juju their rivals that is why they are affected. They used Moses as excuses and Desser believes this fabricated story.

    • GLORY 4 years ago

I knew it will never be far from such. Just imagine how some nigerians are selfishly destroy Nigeria.

    • Ugwudede 4 years ago

Why do you people like to tarnish your fellow man’s image. Can you confirm with certainty that Onuachi and Odeh said this to Dessers. Pls let’s try to be civil in our comments. Is it a do or die affair for him to play for Nigeria. If he decides to for Belgium he wouldn’t be the first no the last.

    • Olusegun.B. 4 years ago

      Damn
If this is so then then NFF better work on getting him back. And let him know that this is not true . Those players if so they said so are only doing so in other to sabotage the progress of the team .onanchu was given many chances but failed . Odey needs to work hard so as to probe he’s worth SE. Dessers needs to know that Nigeria still needs him . CSN if you have Dessers contact , let him know Nigeria still wants him and that he should not screw up this chance .

    • Chima E Samuels 4 years ago

NFF should not waste their time, Desser should man up. Nobody used juju on Moses. Moses left because he wasn’t up to the pace required at a point in time when he was refusing to track back and defend. He was a kingkong so he left the super eagles when he was no longer guaranteed first eleven.

    • Jason 4 years ago

Wow I’m so disappointed at this write up. Ah! Chima you are evil. You are a very wicked man.

  • When I read this news in the afternoon l was devastated to the extent that l ceased being online because initially believed that Nigeria is home and dry in winning his heart going by his and family excitement though Nigeria has abundant talents however Dessert is needed in SE. I hope he doesn’t renege his allegiance to Nigeria

  • I can’t believe this until I hear from coach Rohr

    • Silva 4 years ago

You guys should click the link cos dessers denies the fake story about him Turning his back at Nigeria

      • Olusegun.B. 4 years ago

I just read it. What is wrong with those assholes , what’s their problem. Why give people fake news. Anyway, I want Dessers to know that he’s needed in the SE. Period .

  • Divine Harmony-Tonkeye 4 years ago

I don’t think anyone should pay attention to this. Somebody just want to make him look bad.
Someone who has been voicing out his desire to play for Nigeria from 2017 till date after a very good season with his club then, when he could have also Holla’d at the Belgium coach for a slot too but he didn’t. After an unfortunate time at his next club, he left, performed again and kept expressing his desire to play for Nigeria and was also heartbroken when the lockdown and covid delayed his debut, and someone wants to tell me that all of a sudden he now wants Belgium. Make people fear God at least.

  • Making a story out of nothing. Clickbait

Super Eagles hopeful, Cyriel Dessers has refuted reports suggesting he could consider turning his back on Nigeria should he get a call–up from Belgium manager, Roberto Martinez ahead of a possible return to international football next month, AOIFootball.com reports.

Reports in some sections of the media stated that the 25-year-old may reconsider his decision to play for Nigeria but Dessers told AOIFootball.com exclusively from his base, that such stories are unfounded lies to attract website traffic.

“They made a story fromnothing. I didn’t even talk with Belgium and then they make a story.

“I said I hoped for a call (from Nigeria) in September, but that’s not even sure. That’s the coach who decides, It’s not in my hands.

“It’s just the clickbait sites who take things out of context and make juicy titles,” Dessers explained.

The former Heracles Almelo striker further stated that the suggestion to play forBelgium was made by Luc Nilis a former Belgian player who suggested him to the coach but he remains committed to making his debut for Nigeria when international matches resume.

The 25-year-old was handed a debut call–up last March for Nigeria’s double header clash against Sierra Leone but failed to make his debut as the match was cancelled due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.

Dessers has however moved from Heracles Almelo in Holland to join Belgian side KRC Genk and has scored twice in two friendly games.

Whatever happens, the super eagles still wont get past the first round of the next world cup. World cup soon come, and these people still juggling for players. Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa, they should have talent, but still cant get past the first round. Nigerians and their ego’s of wanting mixed African’s to play for them. Maja and Dennis get dropped for a biracial Africans. Iwobi was scouting for Philip Billing and people want Joshua Zirkzee, shameless.

    • You sound like a racist! Did they choose to be half casts? Keep your mouth shut if you have nothing to say please! They are much Nigerians as you are! Tomorrow you cry of racism while someone here is been racist against his own kind!God have mercy on you

The only smoke I see here is the smoke of lies being peddled around of some phantom friend overhearing “JuJu talk” in Genk all the way from Liege….LMAO. The same JuJu that has not affected the likes of Aina, Balogun, Ajayi, Ekong, Aribo and Iwobi plus the emerging youngsters like osimhen and chukwueze.

Later they will label owngoal a fake site that published rumours and lies. LMAO
