Magpies coach Rafa Benitez reportedly wants to keep the former Senegal international if he stays on as manager although Diame has now entered talks with Al-Gharafa. The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month and reports claim he has already arrived in Doha ahead of a medical.
Al-Gharafa are currently coached by former Rennes boss Christian Gourcuff and Diame is now set to team up with Wesley Sneijder at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium. Diame rejected a one-year extension offer from United and he now looks set to leave the club after making 97 appearances in the famous black and white colours.
