Donaldson Eyes Rhinos Deal

Leeds Rhinos forward James Donaldson has revealed his hopes of signing a new deal with the club for 2020.

The 27-year-old penned a one-year deal back in January after impressing on trial and has gone on to make 20 appearances for the club this season.

However, only three of those have been starts and it remains to be seen if he will be offered another deal to stay on for next season.

There have not been talks yet and the Cumbrian will do his best to try and earn a new deal. “I would love to stay at Leeds,” Donaldson said. “There’s nowhere else I would want to play my rugby than Leeds at the moment.”

Leeds suffered a 32-16 home loss to Hull KR last Friday although Donaldson has been pleased with his own form.

“Personally I have been quite happy with my performances,” he said. “It maybe wasn’t my best last week, I could have been better in a few places, but as long as I am doing my job for the team and bringing an impact off the bench – making my tackles and doing the one percenters, which is my game, I have been pretty happy.

“I have been playing most weeks and I am really enjoying playing under Rich [Agar, Rhinos interim coach].

He has filled me with confidence in my game and I think it has brought the best out of me.”
