CSN please make correction to the write-up. Heading has Dessers and Onuachu scored but in the details you mentioned Onuachu scoring twice while omitting Dessers.

Well Done to the boys in Genk, flying the SE flag high.

  • GLORY 4 years ago

Watched this game and just wanna say Osimene/ Dessers partnership will produce loads of goals for SE going by how well that combo of Onuachu n Dessers worked today.

  • Obidee 4 years ago

Nice one guy’s u did well in today’s game
    Onuachu and Desser

  • Dr. Drey 4 years ago

@Glory…you are damn right. I was just licking my lips watching dessers bully Zulte’s defence. He’s a perfect no 9…a classic no 9… and will even do better with a very mobile and equally aggressive and deadly partner. Its a shame he took off too late for his 2nd goal which was chalked off for offside. Honestly it will take a whole lot of games (friendly and competitive) to arrive at the best combination of 4 out of the close to 10 no 9s we have at the moment.

Meanwhile Balogun produced another impeccable performance today at the back. That guy has the brains of a computer guru. He does his things so neatly you would thing he has worked as a surgical nurse before…Lolz. Im waiting for that loud mouth who claimed Balogun wouldnt be a starter at rangers to come and recant his gaffe. I dont care which other Rangers defender is currently recuperating from injuries but i dont see anyone displacing Balogun in the heart of rangers defence barring any injuries.

And pls what is happening with Stephen Odey….? Is the Belgium league/ Genk too high a level for him or what…? He seemed to be faring quite well in the Swiss league while he was at Zurich. He should better seek for a loan move ASAP.

Those who insist players should move to higher and more competitive environments to prove themselves did not err in their thoughts

@ Drey to be honest, I can wait to see Osimene n Dessers combo. Like you rightly said, we sure gonna need lots of friendlies to try d various combo, available to us at the moment. Nacho/Osimene, Denise/ Osimene, Nwankwo/ Osimene, Sadiq/Desser, Sadiq/Osimene. Broda Osimene has become a reoccurring decimal in all d combo. Well as for Balogun, it will only take a very dishonest person or a complete novice in football matters to fail to acknowledge his very rare qualities as a top centre back. He is so assured on d ball. He is now short of marketing age otherwise, he definitely belongs to the big leagues.

Unfortunately the 4-4-2 system seems kinda obsolete in this age. Twin strike forces have be relegated for much more all round tactical balance. Otherwise, the only way we can get to use even 4 out of these out many no 9s would be if some of the others can develop other skill-sets that engender tactical flexibility. A player like Nacho will fit the 8/10 role much more than a 9. Dennis will have to battle it out with the wing forwards. Simy and Sadiq will have to play out of their skins to push Osimhen and Dessers down the ladder.

I have been dreaming about this combo of Osimhen and Dessers for a long time now. Of course, Osimhen is the recurring decimal, as he can be combined with a long list of other forwards, to devastating effect. With someone like Saka on the left and Chukwueze on the right, goals will flow like the River Niger. I remain a big fan of the 4-4-2 system. If executed right, it has little drawbacks from a tactical perspective. Key to making this system work is the midfield quartet. An energetic double pivot in the middle, and fast, skillful wingers that fall back to support their full backs when necessary. Our best teams to date (the 1994 world cup eagles and the 1996 olympic squad) played 4-4-2.

3-5-2 will even be better. Think about it!

          • Pompei 4 years ago

Yes, I like the 3-5-2 system as well. Our defence has been much stronger whenever we deployed that system, as England, Argentina and Iceland will readily confirm.

  • Karshams 4 years ago

    Aribo too was excellent

  • I just read that 20 year old calvin (left full back) bassey made his debute for rangers. The boy is good I tell you, I believe if we give him a chance in the super eagles he will do well. He is strong, skillful, possesses good range of passing and decent pace.
I hope he gets more game time to sharpen up his skills.
Big ups to balogun, he really is doing well for himself.
Plus the big time performer, Aribo, a good player any day. Hope the continue to use him in the attacking/creative midfield position.

    • Sammy 4 years ago

God bless you bro for saying this..that Calvin bassey of a guy is a beast,he is very fast ,can dribble even his cross is world class

    • Pompei 4 years ago

Indeed, Calvin Bassey is a good player. He reminds me of Bayern’s Alphonse Davies.
      Fast, skillful, strong player.

  • Emmanuel 4 years ago

Saw Onuachus goal, that was world class.

    • Pompei 4 years ago

Received the ball after Dessers’ hustling in the box, and proceeded to chip the goalie delightfully. Onuachu took that goal in a way that would have made Messi envious, lol. Do I hear fans calling for his return? Who knows? If the guy is improving, it could very well happen!

  • Pompei 4 years ago

    Possible 4-4-2 line-up:
Forwards – Osimhen, Dessers (Simy and Sadiq are equally capable)
Midfield – Saka, Aribo, Ndidi, Chukwueze (Ejaria and Etebo are equally capable in the center midfield. Sub wingers – Ejuke, Iwobi and Kalu)
Defence – Aina, Balogun, Ekong, Ehizibue (Ajayi, Omeruo are great subs for centerback role. Awaziem can play centerback or right back. Sub for left back – Zaidu Sanusi)
Goalie – Uzoho (Subs – Okoye and Akpeyi/Osigwe)
    Strong defence, explosive going forward.

    • Goal ⚽️ 4 years ago

In a 442 formation what you need is two box to box midfielders not defensive midfielder otherwise the team will lack creativity and balance.

    • Paschal 4 years ago

Your list is good, but with the emergence of Zaidu Sanusi and Calvin Bassey I doubt if Aina and Collins will still be able to nail starting spots in that postion. This is also the same way that Idowu went into oblivion. How I wish everybody can play. I dont like to see anyone benched but its not possible, that is football. May God assist our SE.

  • Abdul andah 4 years ago

I wish them all the very best of luck in their team competitions. Ameen.

Can’t wait to hear or read that BS7 has applied for a switch to the super eagles sooner than expected.

Super eagles Gaffer will be having an avalanche of selection headache in no distant time because I read that lookman ademola has also filed for a switch of an allegiance… He had a season to forget with RB leizip last season in their league competitions… I hope he will train very heard and come out with a strong showing in this coming bundesliga outings.

For me,I don’t really believe in Moses Simon despite his wonderful performance last season in the french lique1. He will need to do much more in order that will be earning a regular call-up ahead of lookman and ejuke.
Ahmed Musa days in the new generation super eagles are numbered… I enthuse many will reason with me?

  • Gowetok 4 years ago

Sadiq scores twice yesterday. Why was it not reported. CS editor pls try increase ur tentacles far and wide.

  • Sammy 4 years ago

We need Calvin bassey ..pls guys go and watch this guy on YouTube..you will be amazed… He is better than Collins by far

  • Emmanuel 4 years ago

@Abdul Anda, I agree with you to the extent of the mention of Moses Simon and Amed Musa’ s relevance. It is instructive to note that Simon is the most relevant winger we have with Eagles right. He may not be so flabouyant, but he interprets the coaches philosophy better on the pitch. He’s so discipline and very well assured on the ball. You see how he retracts back to assist the defence. His timely release of the ball to the attack is envious.Go back to the qualifies then you will see his relevance. In recent times a look at the Friendly against Brazil shows Moses inteligence, the timely and well orchestrated pass to Aribo after a first time control of the long ball from Osimhen, led to the goal. You don’t have any complaints against him my brother.Aside from the fact that he’s still very young, you don’t just take away a fine player for no just reason it could just affect the chemistry of the team.

In the same vein Ahmed Musa is one player you can’t really do away with as being a big game player. If you notice, even though he’s the team captain the coach does not start him only bringing him in when the need arise. But on the big stage, Musa will always deliver you must give it to him.

We are blessed with fantastic players across the world,we will not continue to do elimination method for the sentiment sake.In other words the fact that we have a good player in a particular club does not mean we eliminate the existing one even where he’s still doing well. The chemistry of the team must be kept intact, only bringing in players that are needed.

  • If there’s any attack that’s deserving a national team call up at this time, it should be Umar Sadiq. This gangling striker is one of the few consistent strikers in the last four years after the Rio Olympic soccer event where he had a remarkable performance under the legendary soccer tactician, Samson Siasia.

  • Mr. Rohr should please take a look at this two left back defenders, Calvin Bassey and Saidu Sanusi I think this two defenders can solve our problem in the left back. Dessers and Umar Sadiq really deserve a call up to the super eagles. They should be given a chance to prove them self. I hope Saka will join super eagles soon. Up super eagles.

    • Adisboy 4 years ago

Dessers was already called for the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in March but COVID happened. Sanusi will definitely be in the next squad.

  • Larry 4 years ago

Moses Simon is ahead of all SE players, he is highly prolific and technical. Winning goal of the season, player of the season and getting inducted into Nantes team of the decade is no fluke or joke. His performance and record with SE is also commendable.
Samuel Kalu and Onyekwuru are the ones that need to buckle in order to be relevant in SE.
CS needs to do more in the area of coverage, Sadiq Umar scored two goals yesterday.
Alampasu and Sadiq should be considered.

    • JimmyBall 4 years ago

… @Larry good talk. If any individual has played football before you know without any doubts that hardworkers are indispensable in any team, Genarro Gattuso was ever present in the star-studded AC Milan team not for so much in talent but work rate… that’s why a Moses Simon is still key and another player of equal ilk is Peter Olayinka… If I were Super Eagles coach, I will name Peter Olayinka in every squad announcement before even starting with goalkeepers… What that young man has in footballing team-play-discipline and work rate, no SE player at the moment come close… This is my own humble opinion.

  • FrankL 4 years ago

@jimmy ball, which clubs did you play for… just curious
