Eguavoen Ready To Become Permanent Super Eagles Coach

Super Eagles interim head coach Austine Eguavoen has not ruled out of the possibility of managing the team on a permanent basis, Completesports.com reports.

Eguavoen was placed temporarily in charge of the Super Eagles following the sacking of Gernot Rohr on the eve of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro is expected to take charge of the three-time African champions after the AFCON finals in Cameroon.

Eguavoen has however put himself in a good position to get the job on a permanent basis following the Super Eagles impressive start at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon.

The former defender was asked at Tuesday’s press conference if he would be interested in becoming the permanent manager of the Super Eagles.

“If they gave me the job, why not?”Eguavoen replied.

“These questions have come many, many times, but I’m very happy with the position I occupy with the Nigeria Football Federation.

“Yes, if they asked me for it, yes maybe, just maybe and when we get to that river, we will cross it.”

The Super Eagles will take on Guinea-Bissau in tbeir final group game on Wednesday.

Malawian almost shocked Senegal if it wasn’t for VAR that cancelled the penalty…..Malawi would have won 1-0 only solid thing about Senegalnis the defence….Their star studded team that plays in top clubs have not done anything extra ordinary…..Left to the likes of Rohr you have to play for Chelsea, Bayern, and Real Madrid to succeed lol…..but a group of players that oly their trade in the South African league almost shocked the terranga lions…..We might meet Malawi as one if the 3rd best team and we have to be really careful. They play rough.

Eguavoen Ready To Become Permanent Super Eagles Coach is the icy on the cake. I just can’t wait. In short, that will be a good one should NFF go ahead and do the needful.
In response to your post, Senegalese team already know whatever the outcome of their match with Malawi, they were topping the group. If you watch the game closely, they weren’t hungry for goals and were careful of sustaining injuries.

    • Ololo 2 years ago

I doubt we will get Malawi.. we are most likely getting best third from E and F. It can be Gambia..

    • Why are you so obsessed with Rohr this and Rohr that? Was it not people like you that was wailing and gnashing that you lost to CAR,drew with Cape Verde and Serria leonne on a crusade ground? That results is to show you that there are no team that is unbeatable not even with Nigeria that used to use fire brigade approach to everything. You may say that everything is working fine but we all know the reason not that the right things have been done but sentiment and hatred will no allow you people to say. Comoros is currently showing Ghana pepper right now too.

      • FootballfanatiC 2 years ago

I’m not obsessed I’m simply quoting what he said in comparison to how the teams with players in bug clubs have played…

  • Here we have him, a local content coach and a transformer for that matter. Over to the Sports Ministry for approvals.

    • The campaign will start soon, let’s chill first.

      • Yes I will love to see eguavoen to retain the job permanent. And let the oyinbo coach go away.

      • Aondohemba 2 years ago

NFF give this man this job. He has something to offer. He will take it as a personal sacrifice because he understands the pains of Nigerians and what they truly want. His tactics are nice, the only pattern of football that works for SE is tikitaka. If you observe closely, this was the pattern that Keshi used in winning the AFCON some years back. Long passes doesn’t work with out team. And Eguaveon is the man behind the wheel.

His 11 in, 11 out attacking/defending formation with fast moving wingers gave coach Austin Eguavoen out as a system administrator. Within a short time, he was able to administer the dwindling Fortune of our team, we are now one of the best teams in Africa according to the media. God will bless you for putting smiles on the faces of millions. It can’t be better, You deserve.

THE PROBLEM OF SENEGAL IS THE COACH I THINK HE HAS OVER STAYED AND THE FA NEEDED TO BRING A NEW COACH FOR FRESH AIR TO PERMEATE . HE IS NOT ADDING ANYTHING TO THE TEAM AND THE PLAYERS LOOK LAZY . PROBABLY THEY THINK NAMES CAN WIN THEM GAMES , YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR EVERY GAME YOU MUST WIN.

Have watch two Senegal match including the one of today. Malawi team would have shocked them today with their coordinated attack and defense. There is no small team in this AFCON, any team playing Malawi in the round of 16 should be careful.

That Senegal team is over hyped team, imagine playing 3 Afcon match with only one goal which came from a penalty kick.

The teams to contend with in this AFCON are CAMEROON NIGERIA MOROCCO

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

I think this is Nigeria’s AFCON to lose. The only thing that can stop the SuperEagles in this AFCON is the SuperEagles themselves. It is shaping up for a potential Cameroon and Nigeria final again. Aliou Cisse can’t bring anything new to Terranga Lions anymore. Lmao!! We are likely facing Malawi in the second round.

Out of the ashes came “Egua”. Rohr was killing our games slowly. Assuming that only when they (Nigerian players) play in the top teams in Europe, can they realize their full potentials for the National team. Well, Egue proves Rohr so wrong now. With Egua game’s philosophy based on mass attack and mass defense, and with infusion of Osimhen, Ighalo, Lookman, Onuachu and perhaps, the young man, Amoo, Nigeria may win the World Cup this year. Believe me. It was acutely obvious that Rohr was not good enough for Nigeria and he knows it.

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

    Ghana don goooooooooo!!!!

  • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

Ghana kicked out of Afcon….lost 3-2 to Comoros. I really have not sympathy for the Ghanians cuz they are envious of Nigerians….very Jealous people. Imagine trying to fight for the 3rd place and to their fans still had the mouth to talk about meeting Nigeria in the latter stages to whoop our ass lol..

  • Amen in Jesus name. The only unifying factor in Nigeria is football. Eguavoen you are conspicuously making football fans excited at present. When SE plays now 80% of Nigeria glue with Television to watching. God bless you Augustin Eguavoen

  • Detruth 2 years ago

Yeah Ghana will really Nigeria in the later stage and they are definitely going to woop us

    • Edoman 2 years ago

      How stupid you are. Go h o m e.

    • A lot of people here are in dream land as usual. Ghana simply lost out because they have averaged players in their national team and no young players to look to the future. Thomas Partey 28 year’s old, Andre Ayew 32 years old, Jordan Ayew 30 years old.
I can go on and on.
Eguavoen is only lucky to inherit Gernot Rhor’s team as his first 11 are Rhor’s players.
He can’t build his team from scratch. He tried it before and received a bronze for it.

For those that follow football properly, this AFCON has been about strength, pace and ruggedness. This is the reason some newcomers are shocking the old ones and why to an extent Nigeria is surviving.

However, this pattern of football only works on the African scene. At the World Cup level, African teams that play with strength, pace and ruggedness will be dealt with from the referee, the short passes played by other developed nations teams and a central tactical play.

These traits are seriously lacked by Eguavoen and possibly Peseiro in charge will deliver better value.

However I am yet to be convinced that Eguavoen’s tutored side can match Cameroon if they meet at this AFCON.

      Till then I wait.

  • The problem I have with Eguavoen taking over the helms on permanent capacity is his ability to scout the best players available.
Rightly,he has proven to have the tactical acumen to assume duty as the super eagles manager but I’m bothered in the area of selecting players,I don’t trust his judgement on that based on the players he scouted before the nations cup his additions are controversial and has not showed promise.
I believe dumped Dessers may have stolen the show in this tournament rather Eguavoen preferred a Nasarawa United striker over Dessers. To aggravate matters he said he would have considered at least 5 home based players had he got more time shocking!
Apparently,Eguavoen has done well so far because he has quality players aplenty in the team coupled with the fact he’s a good tactician. But the big question is had Eguavoen assumed duties from the scratch would he be able to assemble this good crop of winners?Probably wouldn’t even have qualified for the Afcon with his own (players)selection.

    • Best comment I’ve seen so far. What you said is very true and that’s the problem with local coaches compared to their foreign counterparts. We still have to support/work with them and continue to voice out when they make such wrong calls in player selection.

    • Good comments as someone has already mentioned.

These players were Rohr doing, he actually gathered up these crop of players. It matters much because the players are the ones to play to your tactics optimally.

      • Jacob 2 years ago

who good players help if the coach doesn’t know how best to use them? Or if he is not able to instill confidence in the so called young team like Genort Rohr.
He had all these good players for 5yrs in charge but could not deliver good results for fans.
He deserves what he received….. Sacked!!!!! and will stay for so long without have a team to coach because he did not have the required credentials to coach a class like SE. Rohr was just used by corrupt Pinnick and NFF to drain Nigeria in dollars, that is why they can’t support local coaches who are going to be paid in naira.
You think we don’t know all these? Nothing so special about these foreign coaches that our local coaches can’t do if given same support or even half of the support.

You want to bring foreign coaches give me the class of Guordiola, klopp, Zidane with track record of achievement not all these foreigners embarking on tourism in Africa disguising as football coaches. Anything short of that give us local coaches lets fall and rise with them.

You don’t need to advertise your self but your work will advertise itself.

Let’s take it one step another coach Eguavoen.

Let’s win the Afcon trophy first then we go from there.

NFF can not deny that. Oga Rohr followers can not deny it that you don’t deserve to be the next chief coach of the Super Eagles.

Hmm. The whole world addicted to your Mr. Eguavoen just after two matches but during the Oga Rohr tenure both the world cup and Afcon, we did not see that.

However, many people doesn’t know you. I guess they were young or many of them wasn’t burn when you built your team and took the team to Afcon in 2006.

They claimed Mr. No nonsense is using Oga Rohr team.

Now, let me go deep. Coach Eguavoen can not build a new team few days to Afcon and the best he could do is to bring new spirit and philosophy into the team and it works for him. If to say we did not have a team before the tournament, yes he can do that.

More so, Oga Rohr also inherited Oliseh’s team and built on that team.

After world cup qualifiers then Mr. No nonsense will have enough of time to rebuild the team.

For you former Oga Rohr followers, I know you people pained that Oga Rohr no longer with the Super Eagles. Are you people not enjoying this tournament so far?

Can you compare the last Afcon tournament in Egypt to this one? Many of you Oga Rohr fans are praying so hard to shame our own but it won’t work. I read some comments here now and I am shaking my head for some of us. Are you people not Nigerians?

Instead of you people to apologize and join us to support our own but because of a foriegner who said we can not win the world cup and he also said Nigeria didn’t have players in Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid and so on so, we can’t win anything according to him but after Egypt match, he knew that he just wasted five years for nothing. Is that the gaffer you people wanted to be in charge of the Super Eagles.

Nonetheless, for you Mr. Eguavoen, if you have to be the Super Eagles coach, your image is at stake.

You have to stand by your words. Distance yourself from NFF atrocities. The Afcon list you submitted to CAF, for sure NFF forced some players on you such as Ighalo, Akpeyi, John Noble and Shehu.

Am one of your fans and if you want to keep supporting you, you must put the love of Nigerians in mind not Amaju/NFF.

By doing so, we don’t need Akpeyi, John Noble, Ighalo and Shehu in this squad anymore. Be honest with your selections.

Bring in Dessers, Dennis, Adeleye, Osagwe, Bassey, Ajiboye and Lookman.

No room for tribalism because, we are all Nigerians. As I promised you before the tournament that you will regret your actions about Dessers, what is happening now?

Before you do anything Mr. No nonsense, think about your image first. Good luck to you our own. God bless us all. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • IF HE DOESN’T INVOLVE IN BRIBE TAKING, SENTIMENT, QUOTA SYSTEM. THEN WE WILL SUPPORT HIM.
BUT I DOUBT IT. IS IT NOT NIGERIA COACH. They don’t have integrity

    • Footballfanatic 2 years ago

That’s the only major problem with Nigerian coaches……If he is not corrupt or becomes corrupt later on then he might succeed but then he is being assisted by 2 crooked individuals and a ball boy lol

  • DeSTAR 2 years ago

@Omo9ja ; this is the best ever brilliant write ✍️ Up from you and a golden advice to Eguafon.

    Though Eguafon is never our preferred choice of Local Coach, as our choices were Amunike , Manu Garba , Egbo , Finidi ( with Siasia not available for now and never been loved by the corrupt NFF) plus either Peter Rufai, Shorumi, Cal Ikpeme, Enyama our preferred goalkeeper trainers;

Nevertheless, Eguafon performances with his complete awesome brilliant performances ,mass attack
& Mass defence and attracting football with artistry philosophy of playing to SE strength in the normal wing play of typical Nigerian style of football; Even if we did not win Afcon, Eguafon surely deserves to be SE Coach on permanent basis if he could adhere strictly to this your above golden advice ( I hope Eguafon would read this and take the required step ; I hope too that his fellow @Edoman tribe man would also read the above caution and stop this crying over retired Igahalo who has no business causing further distractions in SE , with his selfishness, we have lost a great opportunity of either bringing Akin Amoo or Dessers who could have added great value to this great team )

No one would have expected this mojo soccer from Eguafon that the erstwhile clueless Rohr could not give us in his entire almost 6 years sorry football .

Lastly @Omo9ja , please stop tagging Eguafon as Mr No Nonsense, his past and his yes Man attitude doesn’t deserve such great title; let Eguafon subsequent actions by having gut not to get involved in this inglorious scandal of bringing a bench warmer John Noble of this world to SE ahead of his better goalkeeper that put him in permanent bench , and to wash his hands off retired Igahalo; sentiment of Edo or Igahalo financial support in any guise should not be entertained in any form ; where he being owed , he should speak out , rather than resulting to self help from an expired player that had called it quit , same also Eguafon should treat tribal sentiment like plague !

Again, @Omo9ja , for Eguafon to stick to your advice, you also need to add responsibility that NFF should also provide , regular salary with good condition of services to Eguafon ; if Eguafon is not paid , he is never an angel ( Rohr a white coach also caved in having been owed months of salary) ; there is no way Eguafon would not continue to cry over his Edo brother Igahalo who can support him; because it is very glaring that the only player Eguafon is missing in Afcon is Osimeh and not Igahalo who was a complete super flopped in his only game for SE until he was removed with silly excuse from the erstwhile clueless Rohr , blaming his poor performance to his 2 years retirement from SE .

    • KRYSS 2 years ago

Please, we should learn to trust and have confidence in our own products. Though corruption has eaten deep into our social fibre, yet there are some Nigerians who still have moral scruples. Not every Nigerian is corrupt. We should be careful the way criticize one another.

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

Well spoken @DeSTAR. However, I have studied coach Eguavoen inside out before calling him Mr. No nonsense.

I hope you have watched his interview yesterday if you haven’t then please
do so and you will agree with me that he deserved that title. The interview is still on YouTube.

No doubt corruption is the major problem of our local coaches but we can do something to eradicate that.

We have to let Amaju go first before we can do anything.

The current NFF are not helping the situation at all.

We need our ex players to be the new members of the NFF then, they will bring new ideas.

All we need is rule of law. Rules and regulations must be there for people in charge of power in this country. Lastly, transparency. If we can put these in place then, we will take Super Eagles back and we will take Nigeria back from our oppressors.

Less than a month, we can see the way Mr. No nonsense already transformed the Super Eagles and the same way, we can take Nigeria back in 2023 elections.

I believe Nigeria can be among the best countries in less than ten years if chosen the right people to lead the country.

Nigeria and Super Eagles are twin brothers and whatever happens to Super Eagles must happens to Nigeria and I hope this new era of coach Eguavoen will reflect on Nigeria. God bless Nigeria!!!

As long as EGU distances himself from EGUNJE, I see him achieving great things with this team. NFF ONIGBESE AKA AJEWOMASAN, the chronic debtors, should also endeavor to help by paying him well and on time, giving him a free hand to select his players, and making sure that we have good pitches in Nigeria for our players’ benefit. We have a lot of technical players in our team. These guys need good pitches to be at their best. The recent performance slump just prior to the Afcon is partially attributable to bad pitches.
Put our boys on a pitch that rivals the premier league pitches, and they will perform.
Talking about player selection, the only way to keep the SE in top shape is to keep selection based on merit. The importance of this can’t be over-emphasized. Every position should have 2 or 3 players who are the very best the country has at that particular time.
Nepotism, tribalism and sentiment in selection will destroy the SE. Let’s learn from Ghana. They are in the mess they are in today partly because some players are some people’s sons, so their selection is automatic. There is nothing wrong in principle in having somebody’s son(s) in the Black Stars, as long as they are the best Ghana has to offer in the positions they occupy. Sentiment and nepotism is a big driver of player selection over there. If they selected purely on merit, they probably would have a better squad representing them at the Afcon.
If we follow this simple template, we will have the best team possible representing us AT ALL TIMES.

Cerezo has always demonstrated that he is a great tactician. His robust approach to matches have really worked for him. His win ratio of over 75% in 15 matches remains the best among SE coaches.
However, as expressed by other progressives on this forum, there is always this negative attitude in the mindset of local coaches. It will be wrong for fans to accuse Cerezo wrongly, however considering we’ll documented of ttitudes of those around him, it will be wrong to overlook players agent factor, bribery, picnic factor, and favoritism..
Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); is good technically but the bribery case still rings. Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Picnic paddy and Viral failure,
Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); did well as a player and hoping that he is upgrading his coaching skill..
Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach): US trained and highly qualified with UEFA -A license..Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer): has overstayed his relevance on the team, has failed to allow competition in the GK dept and a wrong choice for the job.

I think Eguavoen deserves to take over Super Eagles because he appeard a genius of massive attacking and massive defence mantality and appeared a winning mentality for Super Eagles; Rhor has lacked this mentality which SE have been looking for for along time.Super Eagles now have a champoinship mentality to win this cup, look at a pattern of playing, they are speed, playing pressing foot ball, enthusiast and combative performance on the tow matches vesus Egypt and Sudan. So Eguavoen will climb and ascend SE to the World Cup final in Qatar next monthes with an excellent qaulity of players he has in his roster.

  • KENNETH 2 years ago

A lot of you like talking nonsense. Bring out your proof that eguavoen collected bribe. Because others were caught doesn’t mean everyone is the same. Thats why i call taye taiwo and obasi cowards. Why wait till a person die before coming out to lay accusations. They can all go to hell because they sore losers to me. Must we attach bribery to someone who is delivering. Same then can be said about rorh then.
