Egypt-Based Bassey Warns: Eagles Must Defy Hot Weather To Win 4th AFCON Title

Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will have to defy extreme weather conditions if they are conquer the rest of the continent at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt next month, Completesports.com reports.

Gernot Rohr’s charges are making a return to the competition after failing to qualify for the last two editions of the competition.

Completesports.com checks revealed that the weather in Egypt is hot at the moment with the situation expected to get more harsh in the summer when the competition gets underway.

Hot weather situationist is expected to pose a big challenge to the Super Eagles side which is made up of mainly overseas-based professionals.

CSN sought the view of former home-based Super Eagles winger Ezekiel Bassey who presently plays for Egyptian Premier League outfit Al Masry SC.

“The weather in Egypt is very hot at the moment and it will be hotter than this by next month, ” Bassey told Completesports.com.

”At the moment, we only train in the evening when the weather is more friendly.

“I can tell you that the weather here is hotter than the Northern parts of Nigeria, and a lot of the players will struggle to cope with it.”

The Super Eagles will begin preparation for the competition on June 2nd in Asaba, ahead of the friendly with the Warriors of Zimbabwe at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on Saturday, 8th June.

The team will depart for Egypt on Sunday 9th June aboard a chartered aircraft and go into a final training camp in the city of Ismailia. They will face Africa’s number one ranked team, Senegal, in their final pre-AFCON friendly on Sunday, 16th June.

The Super Eagles will confront Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in that order in Group B of the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations taking place in four Egyptian cities from 21st June to 19th July 2019.
