Wataru Endo believed Japan can make a big statement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Completesports.com reports.
Despite repeated appearances on the global stage, they have been unable to proceed past the round of 16 after multiple attempts.
Endo Optimistic Japan Will Shine
Nevertheless, Endo is convinced that the current squad have what it takes to break through this barrier.
“I want people to see us play and think to themselves ‘maybe those guys could really go and win the whole thing,’” said Endo to FIFA.
Past Achievements Key To Success
The captain’s conviction is rooted in their performances at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Japan defeated both Germany and Spain in the group stage, a feat that forced the world to sit up and take notice.
Endo himself feels that the tournament marked a turning point for his country’s status within the game.
“I think that beating Germany and Spain was proof that we’re genuinely a strong side,” he said.
Players Ready To Shine
Perhaps an even bigger step forward was the change in the players’ mindset.
“After Qatar, a lot of us started thinking that we’d like to play more proactive football and take the initiative out on the pitch,” said Endo.
Japan are drawn in Group F with Sweden, Tunisia, and the Netherlands.
