England Collapse To Series Defeat

England collapsed on day three of the second Test in Antigua to lose by 10 wickets and concede the series to West Indies.

The hosts led by 119 after being bowled out for 306 and the tourists made a decent start to their reply, reaching 35-0 but squandered their wickets as they were eventually dismissed for 132.

Kemar Roach and Jason Holder both took four scalps apiece and needing 14 to win, John Campbell finished the match in style for the hosts with a fine six.

The 10-wicket victory means the Windies have claimed their first Test series win over England since 2009, with them 2-0 up wand only having one fixture remaining.

St Lucia is the destination for the next Test, with the action at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium starting next Saturday. Speaking afterwards, England captain Joe Root bemoaned his team’s performance, accepting that they had been outplayed for the second match running.

“It’s been frustrating,” he said. “I think we’ve been outperformed once again and that’s quite hard to take. “As a bowling group I thought we worked exceptionally hard. Scoring under 200 isn’t going to win you many games of cricket.

“They know these conditions well and they’ve exploited them to their advantage. They’ve played some really good stuff at times and made it very difficult. They’re fully deserving of winning the series.”
