England Told To Work On Fitness

England boss Eddie Jones has sent Danny Cipriani, Sam Underhill and Anthony Watson to do extra work on their fitness ahead of the World Cup. Gloucester stand-off Cipriani is looking to earn his place in the squad after an impressive Premiership campaign with the Cherry & Whites last term.

Bath pair Underhill and Watson, along with Cipriani, will not be taking part in next week’s camp in Bristol as they all look to improve their fitness. Jones is eager for his entire squad to be at their physical peak for the tournament and the Aussie is happy to see some individuals focus on conditioning over the coming weeks if needed.

“Our preparation is about making sure the players peak for the World Cup. It’s not about being ready now for it,” he said. “Some players we feel will benefit now from being away from the camp for a little bit and will do specialised strength and conditioning work. “We want to keep the squad fresh and alive which is important and we want to make sure there is a little bit of cooperative competition for selection and edge around.”
