Enyeama: I Felt Like Discarded Material Upon Departure From Eagles

Former Nigerian international, Vincent Enyeama has revealed that he was not happy with the way he was treated after he left the Super Eagles.

Enyeama, who began his career spanning over two decades with Ibom Stars, is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers that have come out of Africa.

The former Lille shot-stopper, while answering a question on the current state of the Super Eagles goalkeeping department, told Hotsportsng that he has not been following as he was hurt and only recently started following Super Eagles games.

“I’ve not been following Nigerian football since the day I left the national team; with due respect, I was treated like a piece of used material. So I put up a block between me and the national team.” The former Lille shot-stopper said to Hotsportsng.

“It’s now that I’m beginning to follow what is going on, but I put a stop to watching the national team because I was deeply hurt.

“I’ve moved and changed chapters. I can’t say much about the national team or the goalkeeping position because I’m not watching them.”

“I can’t pick a memorable moment, but winning the AFCON in 2013 remains one of the best moments, as did winning on the continent with Enyimba in 2003 and 2004. I had other memorable moments in my career.” he said

Recall that Enyeama resigned from the national team in October 2015 after reportedly falling out with some of the country’s top football officials.

Make una go beg Enyama, who knows he may his Spirit that is trobling Super Eagles. He had a serious quarrel with Oliseh and he resigned from the national team. Of course his resignation pleased the NFF officials because he was very outspoken about players welfare.
The very good replacement Carl Ikeme became sick with Lukeamia, and since then Nigeria has been struggling looking for a good Goalkeeper.
NFF should at least plan a farewl match for Vincent Enyam to acknowledge his contribution. I believe it will go a long way in helping us get a good replacement.
What you don’t appreciate, you don’t attract.

Thank you my brother, plain and gospel truth. They have to appease the guy after all the sacrifice from this great and humble guy, who served this country passionately.

Words on marble, what you don’t celebrate, you cannot attract…,

  • Why didn’t you speak up then, there is no room for insubordination. Stop crying over what you created. If you look for sympathy will advise you go seek the face of God.

  • NFF and Nigeria as a whole need to celebrate this guy.

The only keeper that Messi saluted and embrace during world cup after he tried all tricks on him and still unable to score.

Nigeria is not a country you can die for. Just do your best and leave the rest, which is what I’m doing.

I’m in your shoes, Enyeama. Even within ourselves here on this platform, so many people have insulted me because I want the best for our nation.

But when you love your country, you have to face the consequences which I am used to.

As a patriotic Nigerian, I know you love your country, Enyeama. Please forgive, and let’s move Nigeria forward.

I can’t quite now because of the insult upon insult I’m receiving from Nigerians almost every day on this platform.

NFF and the Nigeria government are not for the citizens. We asked to serve us, but we are the ones serving them. It is a pity.

More so, we need you and Ikeme or, if possible, Peter Rufai, you Enyeama and Ikeme to work collectively.

Please, Enyeama, this is the time we needed you most. One love, Enyeama. I omo9ja is begging you on behalf of Nigerians. Please let us get the job done. God bless you more Enyeama. God bless us all. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

First of, thanks for your service, Enyeama.

But you were the one who, of your own free volition, decided to retire from the National team. Nobody forced you to do so.
The new coach at the time, Oliseh, decided he wanted a change in captaincy and chose Musa. You threw a hissy fit and decided to leave. As far as I am concerned, that is on you.
There was a point in time when you club coach decided to go with some other keeper for Lille. I don’t recall you complaining how bad you were treated at Lille because of that, or when they decided not to renew your contract, after all you did for them.
You really need to grow up and stop complaining about everything that doesn’t go your way.

    • Adedapo Fetuga 12 months ago

@Benakay, did you remember at all what transpired before the issue of the captaincy? Please let always research and look from both side before conclusion.Eyeama lost is mum or dad when he was in camp and request he quickly go home for a day,it was in Nigeria and not outside, But strong headed Oliseh refused, sorry to say,i loved Oliseh but there are situations where by we have to balance our charater. There is time to stand on your feet and there is time to relax it. Vividly remember when Oliseh and co formed the mafia group in eagles, they were untouchable.

He is just blackmailing Nigeria, and he follows Nigeria games, just pretending not to have interest, the guy left out of pride, i can remember alot of Nff members tried to beg him back, he rejected, he also said it is a dent on his carea for him to sit on the bench for ikema, that is very unpatrotic, omeruo and musa have been sitting on the bench for over three years they dont complain,
I dont like when players try to make them selves feel like they made super eagles, infact its the supereagles that made you Enyeama and its you who surposed to beed farewell match for the National team that made you, those farewell matches you see, are organised by individual players, not the FA,
Beside if you have problem with sunday holiseh, thesame coach that Nigerian fans also have issue with for abadoning the supereagles during 2015 nations cup qualification, how does it concern the supereagles or Nigeria? that means everybody should stop supporting eagles because holiseh betrayed supereagles, even the holiseh you are trying to blackmail was treated worst than you in the supereagles, at list you retired by your self, holise and finidi was dismissed out of the eagles after qualifying eagles to their third consecutive world cup and winning the 2002 afcon bronze medal, just because they spoke out about poor treatment by the FA, the fact that it was a world cup miss was more painfull to them, despite this painful exit, both finidi and oliseh still offer to coach the team and work with the FA, they both achieved more than Enyeama in the supereagles or football in general,

In Enyeama case, the supereagles just failed to qualify for the 2015 afcon and everybody was was angry, holise was given the job to re organise the team, his telofon conversations with Enyeama who was the then captain was not encouraging as the keeper was talking about retirement and wasnt showing hunger to fight for eagles, he came to camp late and didnt even report to the coach on time, he actualy disrespect holise, holise then strip him off captainship and gave it to musa, he claimed he wasnt proparly adressed, karl ikeme also covered well for him in two frendlies, that was the anger that made him retire, we dont ow him any apology, this same artitude led to osaze odemwingie 2013 Afcon title miss, when keshi called him for a friendly match, after they have failed to qualify for 2012 afcon, and keshi already qualified the team to afcon 2013 with homebased players, in an attempt to strenghten the team for afcon turnament, keshi called osaze odemwingie for friendly and he was making yanga, he was shocked the way he was snubbed, but he didnt retired becos of that afcon gold miss, he quickly reconcile with the coach and featured in the 2014 World cup, scoring a very important goal to qualify us to round 16.
But instead of Enyeama to reconcile with his boss, he started blackmailing with his mothers death that nobody knew about, and now na the entire country him deh beef, na wa oh.

    • Adedapo Fetuga 12 months ago

So the mother is nobody or if a person told you they know your mum, you gonno be happy? Lets look at issue from both side.

      • @Adedapo Fetuga, I would advise you to do your research properly. At no time was enyeama prevented from grieving for the loss of his mother. Oliseh told him to take all the time he needed. He was shocked when he saw him stroll into camp a day before their friendly. Mind you enyeama didn’t train with the team. When the team meeting was on, oliseh told the team that Musa would captain the team for the match, your cry baby got infuriated and interrupted the meeting by saying he was the captain. That my brother is called insubordination. Something he couldn’t try with a white coach. In a nut shell it had nothing to do with his mother or ikeme taking his place. He felt indispensable.

I just watched Enyimba vs Bendel Insurance match, guys!! Amas is the GK we are craving for, that guy made 4 blank saves, he even gave an assist to the solitary goal his team scored, via a well weighted pass from the back. What impressed me most was his overall confidence on and off the ball. That guy should be our NO 1 .

    • Coache 12 months ago

That was how Andrew Aikhoumogbe ended up not keeping for Nigeria. Rufai though good but not confident in corners where Andrew helds sway.

    • Edoman 12 months ago

l also watched this goalkeeper. We have been begging this yeye and fraudulent coach to give Obasogie a chance, he refused. Everyone knows that Uzoho is the worst goalkeeper Nigeria has ever seen. Enyeama has a personality disorder. A member of the Senate called him to apologies on behalf of the Nigerian people, Enyeama hanged up on him. It doesn’t matter if Messy hugged him or not, players do that all the time. Messy still scored him in that very match in 2010 in South Africa. He allowed that occasion to enter his head. In today soccer team, coach can assign the band to any player he believed that deserve it at that particular time. Enyeama made such a fuse over such a thing when Olisah gave the band to Musa, until Engel Gabreal heard about it in heaven. In human life, everybody deserves what they get. You cannot plant cassava and expect to ripe cocoyam. We were sorry to know that he lost his mother when he was in camp, but it is not unusual for something like that to happen during a trial time. Wait until after the match and everybody will recognize the sacrifice you endured. if it had happened while playing for your Club in France, would you abandon the Club immediately to run to Nigeria? It was a two-way affair for you and playing for Nigeria in your profession. But because of Enyema Personity treat, it did not end well for Enyeama. Don’t blame anyone (Olisah) but yourself even though it is something hard to do. Playing for Nigeria helped you too. l expert one day, Enyeama would came out, in regret, to blame all those who wrong him and what and how he felt about his time playing for Nigeria. Playing for Nigeria brought you fame and treasuries. Be grateful for that. You spent many years languishing in Israel until Nigeria brought you out. You forget all that. But fate never forget. Always be grateful for what God has done for you in your life. Just be grateful even when it is all over.

  • @adedapo fetuga, may i please advise you to go do a proper research on this issue. Enyeama was granted time off by Oliseh, he wasn’t even expecting him back in camp until he showed up a day before their friendly in Belgium, Mind you he didn’t train with the team on the day he arrived. And during team briefing, oliseh mentioned that Musa would captain the team for the match, that’s when your cry baby interrupted the team and insisted he was the captain of the team. The issue has nothing to do with the death of his mum and most especially Ikeme. That my brother is what we call insubordination. And the coach has every right to punish him. He felt indispensable.

  • Pompei 11 months ago

Both sides on this matter make very compelling arguments.
The focus should be on reconciliation now.
NFF could arrange a reconciliation meeting with Oliseh and Enyeama.
Both men should then endeavor to show maturity and character, with a view to moving past this impasse.
