EPL: Wolves Compound Spurs’ Woes As Fabinho’s Goal Earns Liverpool Victory Over Burnley

Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker punished Tottenham for a comedy of defensive errors to condemn Antonio Conte to a third Premier League loss on the bounce.

As a result, Wolves moved ahead of Spurs and two points behind Arsenal in the battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

After losing 3-2 at home to Southampton in midweek, Tottenham desperately needed a response to boost their top-four ambitions, but defensive errors cost them dear.

Jimenez volleyed in after six minutes following a mistake by Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris and the Frenchman hardly covered himself in glory when Dendoncker doubled Wolves’ lead 12 minutes later.

In the other game, Liverpool isn’t letting up in its pursuit of Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

A 1-0 win over last-place Burnley in challenging conditions at Turf Moor returned second-place Liverpool to within nine points of City on Sunday.

The Reds also have a game in hand, at home to struggling Leeds on Feb. 23, and still have to play City away in April.

Fabinho was the match-winner for Liverpool, the Brazil holding midfielder keeping up his unlikely scoring run of late by bundling the ball into the net from close range in the 40th minute after his initial shot had been saved following Sadio Mane’s flick-on at a corner.
