Rivers United Technical Manager, Finidi George, has expressed delight over his side’s 2-0 thumping of Plateau United in Sunday’s 2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Matchday One clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Omagwa, near Port Harcourt, Completesports.com reports.
Finidi On Rivers United’s Improved Performance
Finidi, a former Nigeria and Ajax Amsterdam winger, told reporters at a post-match press conference that the Pride of Rivers have improved both their scoring and defending.
“I feel very good, you know. Normally, we’re a team that scores one goal (in a match) and we try to defend it,” Finidi, a former Enyimba of Aba gaffer, began.
“But this time around, we quickly scored two goals and got a lot of chances that could have been converted, but we couldn’t.

“But I think we defended very well and I’m quite happy the team is looking good. But we’ll keep pushing them until we see where we’ll end up in the season.”
Finidi Pleased With Recruitment
Finidi did not hide his delight over Rivers United’s recruitment during the transfer window.
“If you look at our recruitment, it’s quite better than that of last season,” he pointed out.
“The players are much younger and better, so we hope, come next (this) Saturday, we’ll be able to get a good result in Côte d’Ivoire (against FC San Pedro).”
Rivers United Set For CAF Champions League Test
Rivers United are one of Nigeria’s two representatives in the 2026/2027 CAF Champions League. They will travel to Côte d’Ivoire, where they will face FC San Pedro in the first leg of the preliminary-round fixtures on Saturday, 5 September 2026.
