Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has lashed out at Rangers International following their 1–1 draw in Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The hosts started the high-stakes encounter on the front foot, taking control of the tempo right from the opening whistle.
Rivers United rewarded their early pressure in the 17th minute when striker Chijioke Mbaoma capitalized on a defensive opening to break the deadlock and put the Pride of Rivers ahead.
Rivers United carried their narrow lead into the halftime interval, but the visitors regrouped effectively after the restart. In the 53rd minute, Godwin Obaje restored parity for Rangers with a sharp finish, punishing a lapse in the home side’s backline to level the contest.
Both sides searched for a late winner in a tense and physical second half. However, disciplined defending at both ends prevented any further breakthroughs, ensuring the spoils were shared between the two title rivals.
Speaking after the final whistle, former Super Eagles head coach Finidi George questioned the opposition’s conduct down the stretch, expressing strong dissatisfaction with how the closing stages were managed by the Enugu side.

“They got a draw and they should not complain,” Finidi stated during his post-match interview.
“You saw the way the players were falling down as if they are not fit, but I wasn’t pleased with their time-wasting tactics.”
The result keeps Rivers United at the top of the NPFL standings on goal difference, with Rangers continuing to push closely behind in second.
