Europa Conference League: Dessers Up For GOTW, POTW Awards

Cyriel Dessers has been nominated for the UEFA Europa Conference League Goal of the Week and Player of the Week awards, reports Completesports.com.

Dessers bagged a brace as Eredivisie club Feyenoord beat Slavia Prague 3-1 to progress into the semi–final of the competition on Thursday night.

The forward outstripped the Slavia defence to open the scoring with a low shot in the second minute.

The Nigeria international got his second of the game a minute before the hour mark slotting home after intercepting Aleš Mandous’ clearance.

He is now the joint-top scorer in this season’s Europa Conference League, level with Roma’s Tammy Abraham, having scored eight goals in ten appearances.

Leicester City’s James Maddison, Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, and Dimitri Payet are the other nominees for the Player of the Week prize.

Dessers will slug it out with Zaniolo, Maddison and PSV Eindoven’s Eran Zahavi for the Goal of the Week award.

  • Dessers should be in the super eagles team for our next game be it a friendly or Afcon qualifiers. He is far better than ighalo, onuachu, musa combined. A real goal poacher and excellent finisher.
Our top strikers in Europe and super eagles are: Osimhen, Dessers and Umar

    • Mahmud Shuaib 2 years ago

So if you are the coach; not talking mediocres like ROHR and EGUAVOEN, you will pick a second division striker in Spain against a Bundesliga striker??

No wonder we are where we are today. SMH!

  • TALK UR OWN 2 years ago

I DON’T KNOW WHY NIGERIA IS WASTING TIME IN PAYING CALL-UP INVITATION FOR THIS FREE SCORING STRIKER WITH EASE INTO SUPER EAGLE AGAIN. HE IS SCORING GOALS IN A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE DUTCH LEAGUE & UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE COMPETITION. COMPARE TO OTHERS STRIKERS THAT IS SCORING FLUKE GOALS IN A WASH-AWAY ASIA FLUKE LEAGUE.
*** NIGERIANS HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS PLAYERS FOR YEARS AGO***
*** I KNOW THERE IS SENTIMENTAL BEHIND CALLING THIS PLAYER INTO SUPER EAGLE AGAIN BECAUSE OF FAVOURITISM OF OUR LOCAL COACHES FOR SOME PLAYERS LIKE ONAZI, IGHALO, MUSA & OTHERS.
##SENTIMENT & POLITICS WILL NOT ALLOW OUR FOOTBALL TO GROW IN NIGERIA##
** UPON STARS THAT SCATTERED ALL AROUND THE EUROPE, YOU CAN IMAGINE NIGERIA DIDN’T QUALIFIED FOR WORILD CUP. WHAT A SAME !!!.

It is a shame indeed but unfortunately, NFF doesn’t have shame at all, this is why we will continue seeing Salisu Yusuf, Ighalo, Akpeyi, Musa, Shehu in the Super Eagles.

Even, Osimeh can’t bench Dessers in the Super Eagles. I have been saying this all this while that Dessers definitely deserves a chance.

These carbals think they are untouchable but we can deal with them all if work as a unit.

If we don’t take action, they will disgrace and destroy our football. It’s getting to that stage now. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

Congrats Dessers. Dessers has really grown into a good footballer over time and we have now decided to allow him play for the S.E. On that note this is the suggested list for the Afcon23 qualifiers/up coming Friendlies:

    Keeper: Uzoho.

    Defenders: Ekong, Balogun, Aina, Zaidu.

    Midfield: Aribo, Etebo, Amoo

    Forwards: Odion, Osimhen, Chukwueze.

    Bench
    Dessers
    Onyenka
    Simon
    Godwin Obaje
    Olayinka
    Sadiq
    Junior Lakosa
    Ebuehi
    Adeyele
    Akpeyi
    Omerua
    Obazee

EVERYONE IS FREE TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS.

I think it is time to rebuild , it is like we learnt nothing by our painful exit from the afcon And the wc miss. Akpeyi is in his late thirties, is it not time to look for other options? We have paraded these goal keepers for close to 6 years and what has it given us? We should replace balogun and Ekong ( maybe ekong could still be relevant) in this team if we are to move forward. For goodness’s sake, let us stop this ighalo thing, haba! Why are we so anti progressive. I am shocked to my marrow that anyone will still be canvassing for the aforementioned players after missing out on the world cup and almost immediately we are at it again.

Some of us complained about our gks but we were told we did not know what we were talking about but what was the end result? The very thing i complained about cost us the afcon and wc. Some of us complained about ighalo and the quality of the league he plays for but we can all see where it has gotten us to but it appears we have not learnt a thing and as such another failure awaits.

Balogun, Apkeyi,Musa and Ighalo need to gracefully exit the team. The slavia prague Sor, olisa Ndah, adeleye, alhassan yusuf, Dessers, and kelechi nwakali (Once he finds a new ckub) should be invited for the game against mexico.

    • Lol! Even a mad man knows that Iwobi’s absence affected us against Ghana so..it is the same Iwobi that is not in your team abi? U do well.
Ighalo, obaje, lokosa to come and bench who pls?

  • Abiodun 2 years ago

Thank you for the list, Omon. Good luck Dessers.

  • Coache 2 years ago

He is a bold striker and not backward-sideways passer of the ball. Thar was what killed is against Ghana, players were afraid to take on the Ghanaians. No bold players. He believes in forward movement like Julius Aghahowa and Daniel Amokachi of yore. They were never afraid to take on defenders.

  • Paulinus 2 years ago

Some people prevented him for playing the Eagles. What Dessers got is a real striker’s goal, the way he likes to make them. Oyes, I am happy with his improvement and of course, it is the dream of every striker to score great goals. He’s such a wonder lad who should have a look in.

  • Omon Michael, I see you have only 2 domestic players. What about John Noble and Ndah? Meanwhile, Dessers has done Nigeria proud with his scintillating play. CSN, do ensure coach Finidi takes note.

  • Edoman 2 years ago

Desser deserves to be in Nigeria National team by his current form. Only local coach like Eguaevon would bring in a player from “2nd Division” in Spain in place of this wonderful skilled player in Holland.

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

So you knew Dessers deserved a place in the Super Eagles while you preferred your own Ighalo to Dessers?

Under Oga Rohr, you did not allow Dessers to breath. You were among those who said Dessers wasn’t good enough and you asked Oga Rohr and coach Eguavoen to opted for Ighalo.

Now you are saying the truth after Super Eagles failed to qualify to the world. Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria period. Dessers, keep proving your worth to them. You are the man of the moment. Keep shining. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • Abdul 2 years ago

Oga, you have absolutely no shame. Like seriously? You have the gut to come here and say bullshit. You were actually the ring leader of that stupid admonition “let’s fail with our own”. You were here crying all day long for Rohr sack and employment of Amunike and the likes. You and Jimmyball, were crying and advocating for the distruption of that subtle progress we were having under Rohr. Come on! We all know Rohr would have qualified for this world cup easily. Nonsense! You all should be ashamed of coming here to even say a thing.

  • Those friendlies (against Mexico and Equador) should be used to build future team and when we talk about future, I don’t expect people to still be seeing the likes of ..
    *Musa
    *Ighalo
    *Akpeyi
    *Omeruo
    *Shehu.. even
*Balogun as part of the future team.
If Ghana can depend on only party’s experience to conquer Almighty Nigeria, I see no reason why Ekong, Indidi’s experiences not enough for Nigeria to move forward.
