Europa: Simon In Action, Uzoho Benched As Nantes, Omonia Nicosia Lose

It was not the best of outings for Super Eagles duo of Moses Simon and Francis Uzoho as their clubs Nantes and Omonia Nicosia lost their respective games on match day two of the Europa League on Thursday, Completesports.com reports.

Simon was in action for Nantes who lost 3-0 away to Qarabag FK in Group G. The Eagles forward was replaced by Marcos Coco in the 76th minute.

For Uzoho, he was an unused substitute as Omonia Nicosia lost 2-1 at Real Sociedad in Group E.

It is Omonia’a second defeat in the group which means they are rooted bottom with no points.

For Simon and Nantes they occupy third position on three points after two games played.

Also in Group E, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first-ever goal in Europa League as he helped Manchester United beat FC Sheriff 2-0.

It was Ronaldo’s first goal this season and also a his 144th strike in UEFA’s club competitions.

In action for Sheriff were Nigerian duo Rasheed Akanbi and Iyayi Atiemwem.

United bounced back to winning ways in the competition after their opening day loss to Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho opened scoring for United on 17 minutes before Ronaldo added the second from the penalty spot in the 39th minute.

Meanwhile, other results in the Thursday’s early kickoff saw Midtjylland hammer Lazio 5-1, Feyenoord trounced Sturm Graz 6-0, Olympiacos lost 3-0 at home to Freiburg, Ferencvaros pipped Monaco 1-0 in France and Trabzonspor edged Crvena Zvezda 2-1 in Turkey.
