Real Madrid could look to strengthen its midfield during the upcoming winter transfer window, and one of the names now being linked with the Spanish giants is Scott McTominay.
The Scottish international, who has taken his game to another level at Napoli since leaving Manchester United, is reportedly among the players attracting interest from the Spanish club.
According to The Sun (via bein SPORTS) Real Madrid is considering a move for the midfielder in January 2027 and may have already made contact with his representatives.
However, neither club has confirmed an official offer or announced any negotiations.
The reported interest is particularly intriguing because of José Mourinho’s presence on the Real Madrid bench, as the Portuguese manager knows the midfielder’s qualities extremely well.
The relationship between McTominay and José Mourinho began nearly a decade ago at Manchester United.
It was during the Portuguese manager’s time at Old Trafford that the midfielder began receiving opportunities with the first team, eventually making his official debut in 2017.
His career has taken several turns since then.
Although he made more than 250 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, he never fully established himself as one of the English club’s leading stars.
Everything changed when he decided to join Napoli in the summer of 2024.
In Italy, he found a system that allowed him to make better use of his attacking runs, physical strength, and ability to arrive in goalscoring positions.

Now, a potential reunion with Mourinho at Real Madrid would open another chapter in a career that once seemed destined to unfold entirely in England.
McTominay’s performances since joining Napoli help explain why his name is beginning to attract attention from other major European clubs.
In his first season, he became one of the standout players in the team that won the 2024-25 Serie A title.
The Scottish midfielder finished that league campaign with 12 goals and was named Serie A’s Most Valuable Player, an official recognition that highlighted the immediate impact of his arrival.
His influence extended far beyond his goals. McTominay became a decisive player thanks to his ability to win possession, cover large areas of the pitch, and consistently join attacking moves.
During the 2025-26 season, he maintained his importance to the team, scoring 10 goals in Serie A and proving that his impressive debut campaign in Italy was no coincidence.
That development has significantly increased his sporting value and made him an important part of Napoli’s project.
