Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU appraises the performance of Super Eagles players in their 2-2 draw against Ukraine – an international friendly match, at the Dnipro Arena, Ukraine on Tuesday September 10, 2019.
FRANCIS UZOHO 8/10
A superb performance from the often criticised goalkeeper who was dropped to third position at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Made a number of vital saves in the game to deny the hosts a better result.
OLA AINA 7/10
Started at right-back in place of Chidozie Amaziem. The Tornio man was good going forward to boost Super Eagles’ offensive forays and made a fine clearance to deny Ukraine from scoring late in the first half.
WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG 7/10
The stand- in captain was solid at the back but his evening was cut short by a late injury and had to be replaced by Chidozie Awaziem.
SEMI AJAYI 7/10
Combined well with William Troost-Ekong at the heart of the defence. Showed he is ready for a regular berth in the Super Eagles.
JAMILU COLLINS 7/10
Defended well in the game but didn’t offer much going forward.
OGHENEKARO ETEBO 8/10
An energetic display from the Stoke City man. He was an influential figure in the midfield for the Super Eagles.
JOE ARIBO 7/10
Aribo scored a good goal on his debut and was impressive all through.
ALEX IWOBI 7/10
The versatile Everton player was behind most of the Super Eagles’ impressive moves in the game. Full of running and making himself available to receive the passes.
SAMUEL KALU 7/10
A lively display from the winger who was a thorn in the flesh of the Ukrainians especially in the first half.
SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE 7/10
Missed a great chance to double Nigeria’s lead in the sixth minute otherwise it was a fine performance from the Villarreal of Spain player.
VICTOR OSIMHEN 7/10
Converted from the spot to double the Super Eagles lead in the 33rd minute.
SUBSTITUTES
ANDERSON ESITI 4/10
Took the place of Alex Iwobi 20 minutes from time and did little to help the Super Eagles protect their lead.
MOSES SIMON 4/10
Didn’t offer much after his introduction for Samuel Kalu in the 72nd minute.
EMMANUEL DENNIS 4/10
The Club Brugge man was subbed on for Chukwueze in the 82nd minute. Nearly scored the winning goal for the Super Eagles late on but his well placed effort saved by the Ukrainian goalkeeper.
CHIDOZIE AWAZIEM
Not Rated. He replaced Troost-Ekong in the 87th minutes
JOSH MAJA
Not Rated. Placed a cameo role replacing Osimhen in the 91st minute.

Rubbish rating. So Samuel Kalu that created both goals also goes with 7/10 while Aribo, Osimhen and Chukwueze also have the same? Sentiment no go allow you do your job well.
Oga Adeboye Amosun, I beg yo disagree with a lot of your ratings.
Aribo (9) was the man of the match for us. If this was your first time watching the super eagles you would not believe that guy was making his debut. Controlled the middle of the pitch with ease and confidence. Arrived in the box to support attacks constantly and getting rewarded with the goal early on. He even was at the back supporting the backline. I can’t wait to see more of this guy!
Iwobi (8) was the next best if not co-man of the match and save for that scoffed shot he hardly put a foot wrong
Osihmen (7) did his job tormenting the ukrainan backline. Service didnt really come to him but his best play was that thru ball to Samu that he should have put away early. He needs to calm down acting out towards the refs.
Kalu (7) was a mixed bag. He kept slipping early on but he clearly was a thorn on the ukrainian right back and should have had another penalty awarded. He could help out a bit more on defense.
Chukwueze (6.5)did not have a great game if you ask me. He made a ton of wrong decisions when attacking and was too selfish. He should have scored when thru on goal, passed to Osihmen when he took one shot in the first half and also released Osihmen on another counter attack but took too many touches and lost the ball. That needs to be fixed. He doesnt do that in villarreal.
Etebo (7) I have often clamoured for etebo to clean up his game. Hes an all action player no doubt but he is prone to needless errors in misplaced simple passes and giveaways in dangerous positions. Today however, except for one bad giveaway in the second half, he played a composed game. I think its the Aribo effect. Having another midfielder that drew the ukrainians attention eased the pressure on him. Good game
Ekong (7) was solid at the back. Its not easy playing with a new partner and you can tell they werent always on the same page but a job well done. That play when he slid in the box and still win the goalkick was the highlight of a good overall effort
Semi Ajayi (6) wasnt always positionally aware but didnt do too much wrong on the night
Aina (5.5) save for some nice dribbles, i thought he had an awful game. Got caught out of position a few times, gave the ball away needlessly once when he decided to dribble into the middle when he should have released the ball a few touches earlier, and whiffed on a clearing header at the top of the 18. He can be better
Collins (5) he just wouldnt stay tight on his winger and ukraine gound their joy on his side. It didnt help that he wasnt getting mich help from kalu but he also showed a couple of heavy touches on the ball trying to bring it out. Doesnt really offer much going forward
Succinctly and sublimely captured!
Well detailed post mortem. Can’t agree less. Goodd job bro!
please can u work for complete sports to assist them
Remain Uzoho and the subs sir
lord Amo your ratings are spot on. Better than that of complete sports. Keep it up bro
Agree with all of your except one. How you aribo 9/10 is beyond me. What did he do of significance besides score one tap in? The way everyone is hyping him, i wonder if we watched the same game. Making runs into the box does not make one a good player. iwobi and etebo offerred more in the match imo. Aribo gets a 7 max. I need to see more from him subsequent matches
Nice one. You did justice to the ratings.
Your rating is equally poor. If Nigeria scored 2 goals one man masterminded both and it’s Samuel Kalu. Take it or leave it, the Bordeaux star was the man of the match. You may argue his body language and all but Nigerian Super Eagles will need him to be fit and consistent.
I’m not satisfied with the rating
My guy, abeg chop knuckle. Ratings and observations so on point. Inch perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Painted the true picture. Each SE player’s contribution well captured.
CSN editor, can we please replace the Adeboye Amosu’s unbelievably lopsided rating above with Lord AMO’s? Just credit him with the byline. Thanks.
Seconded…!
Pls how many people replaced Iwobi in the game?
AMO : your assessment on eagles performance was spot on your rating of Ola Aina & Samy Ajayi and even Jamilu Collins is a little hash considerating they all put a decent shift.
Your best assessment is on Etebo whom we all know and believed is a senior player with strong attributes but sometimes his school boy errors always came back to hunt his team.
– The remaining player ratings (As requested by Chief Luomo), to build up on the fantastic earlier work of Lord Amo.
Uzoho 7/10: The Cyprus-based goalkeeper had arguably one of his busiest days in the office as he proved that, not only has he come of age, he also possesses array of goalkeeping skills to suggest that future of that department is in safe hands for many seasons to come.
On skills, Uzoho dived low, flew high and timed his runs severally to deny the hosts several obvious goal scoring chances.
Uzoho looked sharp and, but for showdy defending, could so easily have kept a clean sheet on the night.
Subs:
Anderson Esiti 5/10 : Posterity will judge him harsher than his performance actually warranted.
Not the most mobile, Esiti was brought on to help retain possession, reduce the tempo and frustrate the hosts as Nigeria cruised into victory but it didn’t go quite to plan.
Before Esiti had time to settle, the change of approach from Ukraine dealt Nigeria 2 heavy blows. He still had time to make some decent interceptions.
Moses Simon 6/10: the France based winger had 17 minutes to make an impression however the impression was neither long lasting not impactful attacking wise.
For Nigeria, Moses Simon’s dribbles and take-ons are becoming all too predictable (one fan said:’Simon can no longer dribble past my grandmother).
That said, he was again very helpful defensively while doing his best to drive the agenda upfront.
Dennis Bonaventure 5/10: In classic Rohr style, how he expects Dennis to make a meaningful impact with just 8 minutes is totally beyond me.
That said, the young man almost made an impact with exquisite positioning and a cute shot that could have caused problems on another day.
Josh Maja (no ratings) : 5 extra time minutes to make an impact was at less generous than Dennis received and as most people would expect, this was nowhere near enough to see what Josh brings to the Super Eagles party.
Chidozie Awaziem (n/a) : An enforced sub as he replaced the injured Troost-Ekong three minutes to the end of the game.
CSN should do beta with their players ratings. Even d one from fans are better
My brodas, thanks for the approval. My apologies for the incomplete ratings. I had meant to state that I was only going to rate the starters and somehow forgot to add one for Uzoho. The boy really tried and has shown improvement especially with distributing the ball. Our man Deo summarized his outing well
Thanks bro, your ratings were top notch.
azubike Okechukwu the under23 captain is better than esiti.the coach should invite him for the next game.
Please let him concentrate on his most important assignment. Anna that is ensuring that Nigeria qualifies for the the Olympics next year with the under 23s.
Once he has done this he can audition for the Olympics proper by appearances with the Super Eagles next year.
One step at a time with an eye on the objective.
The only caveat being that he is released by his club for the under 23 AFCON in the first place as it’s not fully in a FIFA international break so the club will be in its rights to refuse
I remember how u people re glamouring for Joel Obi.
Hmmmm, where are those people now?Its only in Nigeria that everybody is a coach.
