Exclusive: 2023 AFCONQ: Don’t Underestimate Sao Tome & Principle –Nwosu Warns Eagles

Former Nigerian midfielder, Henry Nwosu has advised the Super Eagles not to underestimate Sao Tome in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Recall that the three-time AFCON champions defeated Sierra Leone 2-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday.

Jonathan Morsay opened the scoring for the Leone Stars, before Alex Iwobi made it 1-1.

Osimhen then netted an instinctive winner four minutes before the break.

With the team set to face Sao Tome next week Monday, Nwosu in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that the team should play them like every other good teams.

“Commencing the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with a victory against Sierra Leone is a good one by the Super Eagles. However, their next attention should focus on Sao Tome, going there and picking the maximum points.

“The players must not underestimate them because every country in Africa are now playing good football. They should maintain the same winning spirit they displayed against Sierra Leone because the three points is all that matters.”

Let the boys go and play . There is too much pressure on them . Go and win the next game , really do they go to lose. Journalist  asking is it the norm to concede first . As if the boys say to the opposition come and score us . We had Rohr. He got results yet he was sacked . Last time around it was 4-4 . Now they win 2-1 , they say unimpressive performance . Let’s start with the state of the pitch – it was a disgrace for a big country like Nigeria to have a pitch like that.
The coach is new , getting to know his players . Likewise they are also getting to know him. Give him time , the team are going to late better and win surely win on Monday

Japan just defeated the Black Stars 4-1. Nigeria should watch that game and see how Japan did it. In short, Japan had an aggressive midfield press and when they gained possession, they immediately attacked by interchanging passes. Their setpiece strategy was sound they also utilized crosses, not just deep crosses, or crosses from the bye line but also crosses from the penalty box.
    Most impressive was their counter-attacking.

You can only play good attacking and attractive football on a good pitch. What we have at the MKO Abiola stadium is a horse racing track pretending to be a football pitch.
