Exclusive: AFCON 2021: Super Eagles Must Bury Every Goal Scoring Chance Against Tunisia –Akpoborie Warns

Former Nigerian forward, Jonathan Akpoborie has called on the Super Eagles players to be clinical in front of goal against Tunisia in today’s Round of 16 of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Akpoborie made this assertion on the backdrop of the team’s inability to convert some of the goal scoring chances they had in the group stages.

In a chat with Completesports.com, the former Wolfsburg striker warned the duo of Taiwo Awoniyi and Umar Sadiq to make use of every goal scoring opportunity that comes their way if the team must progress to the next round of the tournament.

“I am really impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles at going ACON tournament, however, I am really worried with the way our strikers are wasting goal scoring opportunities,” Jonathan, a former member of the Golden Eaglets that won the FIFA U-16 Championship in 1985 told Completesports.com.

“We have gotten to a stage where few goal scoring opportunity that are converted may count for the team. The duo of Awoniyi and Sadiq must be ready to bury all the chances that comes their way against Tunisia.

“We must not also allow the Tunisians to score first against us because of their antics. We have the players to get the job done and I believe Nigeria will overcome them.”

Vetern coach Eguavoen must train forwrds of Super Eagles how to score goals and how to convert the chances and balls whitch come cross Tunisian goal; he must trian forwrds especially Awonoyi and Sadiq Umar to kick with the abdomen of foot with easy kick on the sides of goal, he must instruct playmakers like Aribo , Ihenacho, espcially Ejuke to pass an easy and short passes to the forwards quickly, instruct forwds how to situate and stand on the rival’s 18 line in order to grab then abduct a goals.

Please ejuke was eventually introduce as a sub the coach should warn him of his individual play,he release the ball quick to the strikers,we should have scored more goals against Egypt but the guy cost us instead of releasing the pass for iwobi he decided to go for a goal twice in a difficult angle, please if you watch the replay of the match you will know what am insinuating

  • Tunisia will mostly “park the bus”which will make it even more difficult for the SE strikers. The ingenuity of Simon/Ejuke/Aribo/Nwakali will be called upon and I hope that they deliver the expected result.I wish the SE all the best in today’s match.

Which of the ejuke, the one that is playing himself or the one that can’t assist others, nwakali that the coach is campaigning for that he needs more time to perform. You didn’t even mention iwobi, pls you people should not lead the coach astray ooo

  • At least we are creating the chances at the first place so coach Eguaveon should have noticed that the chances are not been utilized…….By now coach Eguaveon would have dealt with the issue in their numerous training sections…….SE played their last game on Wednesday while Tunisia played on Thursday giving SE an extra days training advantage……..This test is not going to be as tough as the test SE would encounter after this game because SE has all the advantage in this game and it will not be like that again in the coming games especially the semi finals if we get there.
