Exclusive: CAF Judges Will Determine Osimhen’s Fate For Africa Player Award  –Onigbinde

A former Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has revealed that what the CAF judges thinks about  Victor Osimhen and his performance will determine his chances of winning the Africa Player of the Year award.

Osimhen will slug it out with notable names such as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane of Senegal and others for the most coveted individual prize for male footballers on the continent.

Recall that the prolific Napoli forward was the leading scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals and in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying with 10, including four in one match.

Osimhen also made history for Nigeria and Africa by finishing in an impressive eighth position in the 2023 Men’s Ballon d’Or rankings on Monday. He became the first Nigerian to be nominated and finished in the top 10 in the male category in 24 years.

In a chat with Completesports.com, Onigbinde stated that CAF will will only select a player worthy for the spot.

“The body responsible for the function is CAF and I know they plan their work very well and they know what they want.

“If you are talking about Osimhen’s chances, then that will depends on how he performs and what the judges thinks about him.”

The central Moroccan city of Marrakech has been selected to host the awards ceremony on Monday December 11.
