Exclusive: Eguavoen’s Eagles List Capable Of Winning AFCON 2021 –Nwosu

Former Nigerian midfielder, Henry Nwosu believes Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen has done a good job with the list of players released for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Recall that on Saturday afternoon, Eguavoen released a 28-man list for the bi-annual tournament with notable names such as Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Odion Ighalo, Leon Balogun, Alex Iwobi to mention a few on the list.

Reacting to the list, Nwosu, who was part of the 1980 AFCON winning squad, told Completesports.com in a chat that the invited players are capable of making Nigeria proud in Cameroon.

“I want to believe the Super Eagles interim coach has done a good job with the list of players invited for camping ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

“Regardless of those players that did not make the squad, I want to say I am confident with what we have for the tournament. There is no doubt that you can’t have everybody on the list.

” I am confident that this squad can make Nigeria proud in Cameroon because we have options for all the departments.

The three-time AFCON champions are pitted in Group D alongside Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.

Nigeria will commence their campaign on January 11 against Egypt.

That’s true. We can’t wait for the 11th to dismantle pharaohs. Good luck SE.

Odion, Osimhen and Chukwueze will finish them all. What a beautiful Christmas coach Eguavoen.

You’re very correct. That’s chuzzy da dazzler, our own boy on our own list. I can say Odion go rain goals inside any net. Up Eagles!!!

  • coach Eguavoen who is enjoying maximum support all over Africa has shown with this list that he meant business. This man will take our se to the World cup the way things stand now. God bless Nigeria.

What a way to enjoy the yuletide season. Me my friends are happy, Garoua, here we come. Thank God for gifting Nigeria with Cerezo, it can only be victory.

  • It was chief Odegbami who took over from Hon. Henry Nwosu, and back again, Henry Nwosu is talking truths as usual. We want other ex players to come with their support. Time to speak out is now as the coach Eguavoen crew needs support and tactical advise from his click. God bless Nigeria.

The Goalkeeping department is eyesore as we are enduring the worst goalkeeping spell in the history of our football. I am not expecting anything from this technical crew the only positive addition in the team is Kelechi nwakali and Dennis. Like I said this Nations Cup is a Sacrifice only a few will understand.

Four average and below average goalies, yet no Bassey, No Dessers until we are led by a competent football administrator we will continue making average choices.

    • Greenturf 2 years ago

Bassey and Dessers are a big miss.
I still don’t know why Bassey was overlooked by two national coaches. The boy is good.He is mobile, good on the ground and in the air.He has speed and strength which is prerequisite in African football.
I hope we don’t lose this bloke and Dessers to their country of birth. Its unbelievable even in an expanded squad this blokes and in form Akpoguma who could easily play for Germany had he not switched to Nigeria.
I think the lose to C.A.R at home may have cost us a couple of players because the dead rubber fixture against Cape Verde had we won could have afforded us to see a few players in a largely experimental squad. The likes of Akpoguma hasn’t had the opportunity to play in his preferred centre back so it’s hard for super eagles fans to know what he can offer.
A shame indeed notwithstanding a good roster good enough to go all the way with excellent coaching and luck.
      Good luck super eagles!

Season of joy. Good luck to the chosen ones.

Don’t know why fans are saying that Akpoguma.should have been picked ahead of Ndah. I believe that those making such shallow comments do not understand football. I have just watched Ndah’s clips and I must submit totally to Egu choices. Ndah reminds me of Taribo west. Far better than Akpoguma as a baller. Forget the leagues they both play in. Eguavon himself was picked from home, Amunike was picked from Africa . let’s leave all these craze for top five league players. Finidi was picked from Rovers of Calabar to be rated the best cross number on earth. At that time we had many no 7 in top five leagues. Why weren’t they rated ahead of Finidi. I’m sure Eguavon picked Ndah to complete with Ekong and possibly displace him cos Ekong has lost form

    • “let’s leave all these craze for top five league players.”

I absolutely love and agree 100% with this part of your.

      God bless you.

I absolutely love and agree 100% with this part of your statement.

        God bless you.

You watched his clips against which opponents?I’m not taking anything against the young fella.

Where is Victor Moses, Kevin Apoguma , Lookman, Cyril Dessers ???…it seems no room to fight for shirts ?..they just rewarded those that gave us the ticket without external interest!!!..I don’t think is the best way to go but unfortunately Amaju picnick caused all these shit !!.. Moses could have taken the place of Musa , Cyril Dessers for Ighalo , Lookman for Frank Onyeka ,Kevin for shehu that could have been an ideal selection.Well let wish them all the best , we all cant be in the list , those who didn’t measure well won’t be part of the world cup if we qualify.

    • It is painful, but do take heart.

      • Gabriel 2 years ago

@tayo, Me sef tire o. Hehehe that is crying over split milk.

      • tayo; As it is now, he has no option than to take heart after all our coach won’t be there for life.

    • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

I tell you Vmoses for Musa, Dessers for Ighalo, Bassey for Shehu and Noble has no business in the team. Dessers form is hard to ignore and his presence would have made sense like nothing else. Most especially now that Osihmen can not tolerate tough contest since he is still recovering from fractured cheek bone regardless of the mask. Nigeria needs a total position to position revaluation and restructure after the Afcon.

      • Samuel 2 years ago

Very sad indeed. However, there exist no option that to look forward to camping proper. No sensible person considers noise making.

      • PRESH 2 years ago

Victor Osihmen needs psychologist to give him more confidence, but its Nigeria, he stated he is fit, play him, let me tackle him, and see how he reacts, listen you not only playing, you playing against VAR, and all. No way this cup is coming to Nigeria, its already failed.

  • Johnson 2 years ago

Coach Eguavoen team should let Nigerians have the way forward. The list is already a done deal. We have to move beyond the list. God bless Nigeria.

    • Swizborn 2 years ago

Apart from Ndah and Kelechi Nwakali, all others were part of original 40 man shortlist already submitted to CAF. Tournament squad has been expanded to 28 players. The list is ok but Tyrone Ebuehi should have replaced Shehu.

      • Johnson 2 years ago

you seem not to realize that We have gone past -should have- to this is the way forward. It requires common sense.

  • chuks haifa 2 years ago

Dropping Akpoguna for Ndah is the biggest fraud.Anyway our local coaches are secret players agents. It’s coming back to super eagles again. Expect more shocking invitations. Imagine Noble and Shehu making the team. I laugh in Greek. No merit just sentiments and paddy paddy eagles coming back again.

  • Shehu Abdullahi and John Noble have no business in a serious Super Eagles team. Akpoguma should not have been dropped, I find that ridiculous. Also, goalkeeper Adebayo in Adeleye in Israel should at least have been taken as the 4th goalkeeper instead of John Noble! At present, all the goaltenders on the list are average goalkeepers who are potential baskets. Also, Cyriel Dessers is good enough to be on the list although the list of strikers taken is quite a good one. Well, the addition of Emmanuel Dennis, Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar is a good one, and the addition of Kelechi Nwakali is also commendable. I wish the team all the best as it appears merit played a big part in the selection process, with just the addition of John Noble, an unfit Troost Ekong and Shehu Abdullahi the players I feel do not deserve to be on this list based on current performances.

  • Marvelous 2 years ago

Suddenly funny names are just appearing in complete sport just to justify the illegal inclusion of Ndah, noble, etc in an almighty AFCON tournament of Africa. You guys are working so hard lol! Channel that energy to Cameroon and join the supporters club if something meaningful will come out.
