Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Chief Operating Officer Davidson
Owumi has expressed confidence that the league’s new partnership with EuroMatch will unlock fresh revenue streams and attract more sponsors to the Nigerian top-flight.
The NPFL officially unveiled EuroMatch as its new title sponsor in Abuja on Wednesday.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, President Shehu Gusau, NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye, former Sports Minister Sunday Dare, and representatives of EuroMatch in Nigeria.
Under the agreement, the league will now be known as the EuroMatch NPFL, signalling a new phase in the competition’s commercial development.
The sponsorship deal is worth $7.5 million over three years, with an annual value of $2.5 million.
A significant portion of the sponsorship proceeds will go directly to the 20 clubs competing in the league.
Under the financial structure of the agreement, the clubs will receive 60 per cent of the annual sponsorship revenue.
The partnership is expected to strengthen the financial position of the NPFL and provide clubs with additional resources to improve their operations, player welfare and overall competitiveness.
Big Commercial Boost For NPFL
Owumi described the sponsorship as a major boost for the league, stressing that adequate funding is crucial to its growth and smooth administration.

“Money is the soul of the game. When there is no money, a lot of things go awry. Now, with EuroMatch, it is an open door and an opportunity to correct a lot of things that have gone wrong in the past,” Owumi told Completesports.com.
“The league needs money to build on whatever administrative structure is being put in place. The NPFL needs money to pay indemnities, fund its day-to-day operations and take care of other important responsibilities.
“These are things you can never overemphasise — the importance of money to the smooth running of the league.”
Owumi Counts Gains Of New Title Sponsor
Owumi further stated that the partnership would create more commercial opportunities for the NPFL by increasing the league’s visibility and attracting the interest of potential investors.
“With this deal coming in now, we are sure a lot of opportunities will open up for the league because the more mileage you get, the more people become interested in what you are doing,” he added.
“It will open doors for our commercial visibility. There is now an opportunity to get the media more involved in the coverage of the league, and that will bring more value.
“It gives us outreach, visibility and presence. These are what companies and investors are looking for. They are looking for stories and positive narratives about the NPFL.

“It is through what the media write and broadcast that more people will get to know about the league.
“You also take it to the social media space. All these things will enhance the commercial viability of the league and have a positive impact on its commercial value.”
NPFL, EuroMatch A Perfect Match
Owumi also explained the reasoning behind the NPFL’s decision to enter into the partnership with EuroMatch, describing it as a mutually beneficial relationship.
“The NPFL and EuroMatch saw something that brought them together. We have what they want, and they have what we want. It is a perfect match,” he said.
“They want visibility in Africa and they want a presence in Africa.
“We are also in need of partners who will help the league grow in different dimensions and extend its reach beyond the borders of Nigeria.
“So, you can see that we complement each other. Hopefully, we will be able to fulfil our side of the agreement and the partnership will be extended.”
