Exclusive: Peseiro Must Restore Super Eagles’ Glory Days –Nwosu

Former Nigerian midfielder, Henry Nwosu has tasked the newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro to restore the glory days of Nigeria in football.

He made this known in an interview with Completesports.com, where he urged the Portuguese tactician to also focus on players in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Recall that on Sunday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the appointment of Peseiro as Austine Eguavoen’s replacement.

“It’s a good one that the NFF has finally appointed a coach that will manage the affairs of the Super Eagles.

“Peseiro must understand that he must do everything to restore the glory days of the team if he must endear himself to the heart of the football fans in Nigeria.

“The challenge starts now and I really want to wish him all the best.”

Peseiro, 62, featured as a striker during his playing days and has a wide range of experience coaching several clubs and national teams across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.

He has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Guimaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC, and Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos era).

Aside from these, he worked as head coach of the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan national teams.

Before Sunday’s confirmation, the Glass House had appointed Peseiro as the head coach of the three-time African champions following Gernot Rohr’s dismissal in December. Austin Eguavoen was handed an interim coach role to take Nigeria to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Peseiro was then expected to be an observer during the competition after which he would take over and lead the country to the ill-fated World Cup play-off with Ghana.

But the NFF backtracked on the move after the AFCON, citing the “positive performance” of the team at the competition where Nigeria crashed out in the round of 16 against Tunisia.

Alanlo Ede, me I just weak for NFF matter. They demand the best results, but they chose to go the cheapest route.
Let’s hope JP can surprise us and actually mimick or surpass the success of the likes of Westerhof and Bonfrere.
    Time will tell.

Throughout our rise as a football nation we’ve never hired a coach with a household name. Maybe only Berti Vogts. However, they’ve always have a way to get the best out of our players. Jose Peseiro has been rumored to be the SuperEagles coach since December. I’m pretty certain that he has been taking notes of our players since then. Time is indeed a great healer. Let’s hope he can at least ease the wounds incurred on us by our own in the short run. AFCON qualification is non negotiable then we take it from there.

What major trophies has Peseiro won in the past and what were his achievements with the national teams he coached?. To me he is still a mediocre but just giving him benefits of doubts otherwise NFF haven’t done anything spectacular

A man that was part of Real Madrid’s coaching crew in its Galactica’s era is a mediocre are you kidding me?A coach that has managed the likes of FC Porto,Sporting Lisbon is a Mediocre? He has coached Al Ahly of Egypt and won the league title he won a title I’m sure in one of his sojourns in Asia and was recently the coach of Venezuela who are like Mauritius in Africa and you expect Mauritius to beat the likes of Egypt, Morocco,Senegal,Cameroon equivalent to the likes of Brazil,Colombia,Chile,Argentina teams he had to contend with and you guys expect this fella to win titles you guys must be messing.
I think people should give credit sometimes when the Nff is putting an effort and doing the best they can, this stereotypes of criticising everything can be overstretched.
Funds are not available to hire a Pep Guardiola, the likes of Berti Vogts didn’t achieve anything with Nigeria rather unknown quantities like Rohr,Jo Bonfrere,Westerhof,Otto Gloria surprised many with great achievements.
Apparently,Peseiro is the most experienced coach we have hired in our history to manage the super eagles and deserves respect.
I’m positive this fellow shall be a success.

I think he is a mediocre coach who had a weak result in his coaching career ; but if NFF want to make Pesiero to success they must help him to know Super Eagles pattern of playing and must watch NPLF to select a good players for SE, he must develop NPLF, he must play a defensive style and excellent attacking style; if he make these elements he will success in his tenure with SE.

  • Mumu People after they Shoot us in the foot and sabotage everything every list, bad decisions and advice on NPFL nonsense players imposed on team, Quota system leaving out good performing players with reputation like Victor Moses winining Man of the match awards in Russia and Europa League like akara for the likes of Ahmed Musa to captain a team. then they will come and say the new coach must restore Glory days… how will he do that if they will keep bringing thier stupid suggestions of who to invite and who to captain the team. yeye people thunder go fire all of una dere!!!

    • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

Na you thunder suppose fire first na. Abi you’ve forgotten how we were  in a new era where Eguavoen will take us to the promised land?? Wasn’t that your slogan?? Lmao!!!

    MY ADVICE FOR JOSE PASEIRO
** Work hand to hand with your Technical crews
** Let the invitation of players base on merit
** Don’t allow anybody FORCE/IMPOSE any players on you. Instead SCOUT for players & test them in Friendly matches
** Invite local players that is ready to give foreign professional players a stiff competition(not the one to add to the number/surplus to requirements).
    ** Always maintain your stand
** Don’t allow anybody to be pushing you up and down.
** Don’t be carried away with the club performance of players ONLY but base on PRESENT FORM & POTENTIAL
** Do not tolerate INDISCIPLINE in to your team.

    • I need to add this, only invite players playing in the premier division of any league.
