Former Nigeria goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has revealed that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro will outshine Benin coach, Gernot Rohr in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Recall that Nigeria have been pitted alongside South Africa, Benin, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Lesotho in Group C.
Rohr once managed the Super Eagles before he was sacked in 2021 by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
He also led the Eagles to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where they crashed out in the group stage.
However, with both teams set to clash in the same group, Shorunmu in a chat with Completesports.com, stated that Peseiro will have an edge over Rohr due to the array of stars at his disposal.
“I really don’t think Rohr’s Benin will pose a big threat to the Super Eagles even though I know that football is not mathematics.
“But I want to believe Peseiro will definitely get the edge over Rohr because of the array of talents at his disposal. For sure, we know what Benin can do even before the arrival of Rohr to the team.
“Notwithstanding, I think the Super Eagles will overcome Benin and qualify as the top team in the group.”

His beef is only with NFF ONIGBESE. For the most part, the man must still be fond of Nigeria, and many Nigerians are fond of him too. The warm response he will very likely receive from Naija fans when both teams clash in Nigeria will attest to that.
Obviously, Benin will not be a cake walk. They held mighty Senegal to a 1-1- draw. To get the better of them, we will need our best players. No ifs, ands, or buts. This hullabaloo of home based players quota is ok for friendlies, but not for a world cup qualifier.
With our very best players, we can perhaps keep the General at bay. But if we do anyhow, we go see anyhow.

The truth’s Rohr will make the average team look very good,good enough to punch above their weight and this point is the reason we’re scared of Benin.

I love that name General Rohr,I told you guys not to fire that great coach, he know what he’s doing people thought he was foolish, he speak as if his weak to make you overconfident so he can win, that is another mind game. Too much tactics from Rohr, he is one of the best coaches around and he can change game plan very fast, he can switch from 4-2-3-1, to 4-4-2, or 4-3-3 and so on, but he was fired thinking they are doing him favor, let’s wait and see what he will do to you guys.

Nigeria Is Nigeria’s problem I have always said it. It’s not only Rohr people should be worried about since by the looks of things on this platform Pohr has now become a country lol maybe Benin should go and rename themselves Rohr if it is left to some people in this platform but South Africa is the biggest threat.
With the current shenanigans going on in NFF with the mind blowing below average despicable squad selections currently being played out by this NFF Then SA and Benin will show Nigeria flames. However if we select purely on Merit and bed in some of our Break out stars and recall the ones that deserve thier place on Merit I.e. Ebuehi then Nigeria will beat Benin and SA easily but that is Wishful thinking this destructive NFF will derail our qualification

$70k p/m grade coach, the NFF cannot pay…..$35k p/m grade coach, the NFF cannot pay, so how “good” a coach can the NFF afford to get….? $10k p/m grade coach or $5k p/m grade coach or less…..??
