Exclusive: Super Eagles Strike Force Can Lead Nigeria To 2022 AFCON Glory – Akpoborie

Former Nigerian striker, Jonathan Akpoborie believes the Super Eagles will be a force to reckon with at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon based on the array of strikers at coach Gernot Rohr’s disposal, reports Completesports.com.

The three-time AFCON champions qualified for the bi-annual tournament unbeaten in Group L that consists of Benin, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone.

Rohr, who has focused more on Napoli’s Victor Osimehn, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, and Genk’s Paul Onuachu for the qualifiers, will currently be facing a tough headache in terms of selection going by the emergence of other strikers such as Simy Nwankwo, Terem Moffi and Sadiq Umar in Europe.

Speaking with Completesports.com in an exclusive interview, Akpoborie said that the team has what it takes to lift the 2022 AFCON with the caliber of strikers that are painting Europe with goals.

“I am strongly convinced that the Super Eagles has what it takes to lift the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations judging by the caliber of strikers at Rohr’s disposal.

“This is probably going to be Rohr’s best chance to win the tournament if he utilizes what he has with him. Imagine Simy Nwankwo, Terem Moffi, Sadiq Umar, and others painting Europe with goals. It is no longer about the existing strikers but there is no harm in giving other players the room to prove their mettle.’

Ok, now u don agree say the team coached by a “mecahinc” can win the nations cup, eh? I thought u said they weren’t going to achieve anything under the mechanic coach? Pitiful funny deceptive bunch.

  • What Rohr needs now is a player that can raise the ball into the opponent half or box 18 as per plan B for players like simmy or uMar or onuachu to score. The other boys we are use to run with the ball to the box of the opponent and get weak be4 90 minutes enhance they always concede goals even on 93rd minutes. Since he can’t get a reliable noba 10 all this while. So he should look for guy that can cross long range shot.

Akpoborie should know better. A team is not made up of strikers alone. And all our strikers are one-footed, none is ambidextrous. None is a free-kick specialist like Jay Jay

I think attacting way is not enough to lift Super Eagles the cup in Cameroon 2022 ,but orgnized ,depth, pressing playing from defence to the attacting will lead SE to lift Afco cup in Cameroon next year. Good and proper tactics specially proper recoveries and pressing versus the rival will produce good results for SE ,so it will grant them charisma to fear any team, just like former SE generation of Kanu,Okocha,Oliseh,Amokachi,Amuniki,Ikpeba, yekini,Eroha,Siasia and so on, this feature has given SE the force ,ferocioness to beat any team in Africa and the World,so we hope to Rhor to return back this feature…
