Exclusive: Tokyo 2020: Nigeria’s Absence In Football Event, A Big Disappointment -Dosu

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph has expressed displeasure with the absence of the football male team in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games.

Recall that Nigeria finished third in Group B of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which saw them dropped out of contention for a place in the Men’s Football Tournament in Tokyo.

Champions in 1996 in Atlanta, USA where they won Africa’s first-ever football gold medal of the Olympics, the Nigeria U23 participated in the tournament in Australia in 2000 but missed the event in Greece in 2004.

They then took part at the event in China in 2008 and won the silver medal; missed the tournament in the United Kingdom in 2012; participated in the event in Brazil in 2016 and won the bronze medal and; will now miss Tokyo 2020.

However, in an interview with Completesports.com, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist stated that it was a great disappointment that the Dream Team was missing from the games.

“Tokyo would have afforded some of home and foreign-based players the opportunity to rewrite history but it’s just unfortunate that the team failed to qualify for the showpiece.

“Besides, their participation would have afforded the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr the chance to identify some players that could have been of great value to the team. I really feel so disappointed that the football event is going on without our male team.”

*Based on our current football situation*

Home-based- No! Because it would have been another waste of resources

Foreign-based- Yes! Because it would have been another Olympic Gold medal.

  • This is what we have been saying about this ex players.. so he just know today that not qualifying for Olympic is a disappointment? They have forgotten when they were castigating the coach for their local content.

Lol…..@tayo, it just dawned on him now say we no qualify. Very funny people. Not surprised he didn’t state the cause of our non qualification but was just whining like a baby. He won’t state the cause bcs the people in charge of the team were his african guardiaola buddies (local content) If na the white man, you would’ve seen him calling him all sorts of names. Odegbami (the chief ex cricket international) would have written an encyclopedia on why rohr should be sacked and replaced with an ex international with no experience. But they have gone dumb bcs na their paddy cause the wahala. This one come talk bcs him no fit bear the pain anymore. At least, him still get conscience but the rest don’t give a damn about us as long as their pockets are enriched. I hope everybody dy enjoy the pain. Very soon, e go begin happen to super eagles when the man who has made qualification look easy and common is gone. This is just the tip of the iceberg, just a taste of the sour juice that would be served us soon. Hehehehe…..
