Falcons Coach Waldrum Speaks On Expectations Ahead Second Friendly Against Canada

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has spoken on his expectations ahead of Tuesday’s friendly with Canada.

The Falcons will take on Canada in the second of a two legged friendly game billed for Victoria in the hours of Tuesday.

In their first encounter on Saturday in Vancouver, the Olympic champions ran out 2-0 winners thanks to two second half goals.

And looking forward to the second leg of the friendly, Waldrum spoke about the performance of his team in the first game and what he expects in the second tie.

“I took a lot of positives from the match,” he  said in a video published on the Super Falcons Twitter handle.

“Obviously anytime you step on the field you want to get a win, you want a result but the purpose of taking on these games is for our development and our preparations for not only AFCON but the World Cup.

“So I was really pleased with the overall performance of the team especially considering five or six key players aren’t here in camp, it gave the opportunity for some other players for us to look at. But overall I was really pleased for the performance.

“We will make some decisions on how we want to play in the second match. We will make some decisions on whether to play with the same line up, the same formation of we will twick somethings a little bit because it gives us the opportunity to experiment.

“So we will see what that brings tomorrow but I’m going to expect the same kind of effort and performance out of the players we had in the first match. And I think we can take probably 60 positive minutes out of the first match and now the key is to see if we can build on that and get more minutes out of them in the second.”

Waldrum will lead the Falcons to this year’s WAFCON which will hold in Morocco in July.

The WAFCON will serve as qualifiers for the 2023 women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
