Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti reckoned Victor Osimhen was not in best physical shape in Sunday’s defeat to Fiorentina at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, reports Completesports.com.
The Partenopei lost 3-2, a result which dented their chances of winning the scudetto this season. Osimhen picked up an injury in training in the build-up to the game, but was passed fit to take his place in the starting line-up.
The Nigeria international scored and bagged an assist in the game.
“Osimhen wasn’t in the best shape today, as he skipped a couple of training sessions. He did well, but could’ve done better in these physical duels with Igor,”Spalletti told DAZN.
The coach was asked if this defeat had changed the landscape of the Scudetto race.
“Of course things change, because clearly now it’s all more difficult. We have no choice other than to be professional, try to win the next game and see what happens. It is no longer in our hands.”
Napoli have lost six Serie A matches this season, five of them were at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. “They are all to be taken individually, I don’t see any recurring problem we can work on or blame.”

A player who scored a goal, gave an assist and almost sustained an injury in a 2:3 loss was not at his best, Spaletti???
@Monday that is a compliment from the coach and should show you how much quality Osimhen has. So yes if you look at it from another angle it should show you that Spalletti who see’s osimhen Week in Week out know’s that Osimhen can perform at a higher level than that. Meanining Osibobo is a serious quality player!. no reason to get angry at the coach. i am with the coach as, I would also like to believe that Osimhen at 100% could have turned that game yesterday completely in Napoli’s favour.
@ Monday Did you really understand what he said ??
The defense was at their best to let in 3 goals.and oshimen was not at is best for the two goals scored against the opponent.somethi g must be wrong somewhere.
LEGENDARY Detruth don’t mind them after they will TWIST it and CALL it RACISM…

Now why didn’t you people attribute that SPEECH to it’s because WHITES don’t like BLACKS?
When I hailed WHITE COACHES for always being STRAIGHT to the POINT and mostly SINCERE with their JUDGEMENT, some people here called me a WHITE ASS LICKER…

@Olu okay so are you saying it is impossible for Osimhen to score a hatrick or, two goals + assist in a game?. What about the vital times he played offside when he should have be onside?. also he had a injury niggle that did not allow him to train full week session. he is not limited to a goal and assist against Fiorentina there are much stronger opponents and again if he can not raise his game from what he displayed yesterday. then what is the point?
As much as i will want 100% from Osimhen, the coach also need to talk to his teammate to assist him delivering goals. In all Napoli’s match i have watched this season, Osimhen work 80% for the goals he scored alone. We can all see a wasted opportunities which Osimhen would have converted if the pass has been laid down for him even from L Insigne who is the captain of the side. The coach know the best and that he has been calling on Osimhen to do more.
