FG Will Determine Peseiro’s Fate –NFF

FG Will Determine Peseiro’s Fate –NFF

Chairman of the NFF technical committee, Sherif Inuwa Ahlan has confirmed that the fate of Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro will be determined by the Federal Government.

Peseiro, who recently led Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nation, where the team lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast on Sunday, has come under heavy criticisms due to his poor tactics in the final.

It will also be noted that Peseiro’s contract ends after the AFCON 2023 event.

However, Ahlan in a chat with Prompt News, stated that the Federal Government determine whether Nigeria will renew or fire him.

“Peseiro is a national project, not only NFF project. Our duty is to recommend and forward to the Sports Ministry and whatever decision taken, our duty is to implement,” Inuwa told Prompt News.

“So far the Federation has good working relationship with the minister and the minister is in charge of sports in the country. His decision and advise must be respected . He is our father, we must consult him in any of our policies for proper guidance.

Renew this man contract joor! It will expire by this month ending..if possible tie him to a life contract.. I mean he beat our expectations even the NFF couldn’t believe it cos from an inside source, from the contract it was stated that he must get us to the semi finals or risk being fired…

For me, when peseiro got this job, he said he love playing counter-attacking football but to the dismay of everyone, he switched things and deployed a defensive-minded tactics in the last AFCON. It shows that he can switch / tweak tactics when the chips are down but my advise going forward is that he shouldn’t be too predictable but more flexible to achieve results. His contract should be renewed.

Oga Jose Peseiro deserves the continuity that super eagle should be entitled to have. To cut him off at this time is a disservice to the National efforts which amount to injustice that was directed to our former Oga Rohr which Nigeria paid dearly for, and thereby could not go to the World Cup.

Let me warn all the “sack this, sack that” folks, that sacking Oga Peseiro at this time, Nigeria will never qualify for the forth coming World Cup in USA.

Spot-on @Omo9ja and Bestsport. Your analysis and passion to see the Super Eagles do well are always encouraging…

Though I beg to disagree on the support of Emmanuel Amuneke to become the next coach of the Super Eagles.

Admittedly, it would be suicidal if Jose Peseiro remains as the Super Eagles coach, I can bet all my money that Nigeria will not qualify for the next world cup.

As for Emmanuel Amuneke, his success stories are not consistent. Yes, he won the U/17 in 2015 and failed to qualify the U/20 following tournament, he later became the coach of Tanzanian National team and qualified them for Afcon and failed again during the course of the tournament and was sacked afterwards. He was hired by Zamalek of Egypt and he failed again.

In my own opinion, I think the NFF should look deeper into our domestic league in search of a local coach that has been consistently successful with different club sides.

As for Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amuneke and other local coaches that have the Super Eagles in the past all need football refresher courses to equip themselves with modern football knowledge.

Please stop there, Edoman. Making it to the Afcon final with heat attack tactics and failing woefully at the final with poor display is what you call an achievement?

My lovely friend Edoman, listen attentively. If it wasn’t because we had a caliber of fantastic players in our rank, do you think coach Paseiro would make it to the Afcon final?

His story lines almost the same with Oga Rohr. These managers should have been considered for the Super Eagles job, hadn’t NFF known what they were doing.

We hire and we fire because there’s time for everything. In one word, Oga Paseiro time is up. Let’s welcome our own Amunike to lead our darling Super Eagles to promised land.

Are you pained that Ivory Coast won the Afcon trophy or not? If your answer is no then let Oga Paseiro continue with his work. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

      • @omo9ja

        Omo9ja my main guy….

You’re always predicted just as our African quadiolas.
        Hahahaha.

I said it on this platform that your support for white and results oriented coaches is a scam.
        You can see yourself now.

I also warned you not to be a fair weather fan, swinging pendulum to the right side when the going is smooth but when the tides get tough, you quickly switch to the other side.

You were here praising PESEIRO and his game plan the other day, hyping him to the heavens. You even went as far as placing him side by side with Rohr but you never compared him with your “no nonsense” eguavoen that made Nigerians shed tears on two occasions within just few months.

I told you when the chips are down we’ll know the real super eagles fan and those fair weather and self acclaimed fan.

It has happened just the way I predicted.

Now listen to your statement below:

“Please stop there, Edoman. Making it to the Afcon final with heat attack tactics and failing woefully at the final with poor display is what you call an achievement?… ”

        Let me reply this question….

IF REACHING THE FINAL OF AFCON ISN’T AN ACHIEVEMENT, WHAT WILL YOU CALL BEING KNOCKED OUT IN R16 OF THE SAME AFCON?

YOU WERE WATCHING SUPER EAGLES GAME WITH FEAR THINKING PESEIRO IS AS CLUELESS AS YOUR QUADIOLAS THAT COULDN’T QUALIFY US FOR AN ORDINARY AFCON BACK TO BACK.

YOU WERE WATCHING SUPER EAGLES GAMES WITH FEAR THINKING EGUAVOEN R 16 DEBACLE WILL STILL REPEAT ITSELF, BUT THIS IS A WHITE MAN NOW. RESULTS ORIENTED COACH FOR THAT MATTER.

YOU SCAMMED YOURSELF THINKING YOU CAN DECEIVE THE REAL SUPER EAGLES FAN NOT KNOWING WE ALREADY KNOW WHO YOU ARE…..A FLASH IN THE PAN…. COMING TO THE PUBLIC TO SHOWER ENCOMIUMS BUT BEHIND YOU WERE VEHEMENTLY PRAYING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN….. YOU EVEN DID IT AGAINST ROHR…. ASKING PLAYERS TO BOYCOTT AN IMPORTANT WCQ MATCH.

WHY WON’T YOU WATCH THE MATCH WITH HEART ATTACK?

        LET’S CONTINUE….

“…My lovely friend Edoman, listen attentively. If it wasn’t because we had a caliber of fantastic players in our rank, do you think coach Paseiro would make it to the Afcon final?… ”

Let me still answer this question….

This is the same players your quadiolas couldn’t use to defeat an unknown Tunisian assistant rookie coach.

This is the same players your no nonsense eguavoen couldn’t use to defeat the worst GHANA team in over 2 decades.

Did PESEIRO went and manufacture EKONG, BASSEY, AJAYI, ADEMOLA, CHUKWUEZE, ZAIDU, AINA, ONYEKA, SIMON, IWOBI ONUACHU, OMERUO etc…. Is it not the same players that failed to go past round 16 in AFCON 2021 PESEIRO used?….

When you are clueless, you’re clueless.

        Finally….

“…His story lines almost the same with Oga Rohr…”

        Let me come in here….

Hahahahaha….. Omo9ja you and Satan must be struggling for the best hypocrite of 2024….

Were you not the same person that said PESEIRO is better than oga Rohr…. that what ROHR couldn’t achieve in 6 years, PESEIRO is doing it in style within 2 years…..

Omo9ja my brother please try and change….this is 2024….

Let me stop shaking the table before everyone will know the kind of person you are on this forum.

        But change.

2UBFE. l want to thank you sincerely for your stand in your fabulous response you gave on my behalf, in reaction to Omo9ja’s incoherent, unattracted, and unreadable post he always constantly put out. My good friend UBFE, l could not add more. God Bless.

It always appear and suspicious that Omo9ja is a local Agent and a mouth-peace to some of these delinquent local coaches and players who have since lost the forms, outmoded and unemployed in the system.

One thing is certain, our coach Peseiro is not going anywhere. He will continue to be our national coach. Our sport loving President just bestowed upon him, the National Honor with all the paraphyllia’s that go with it. If that does not tell Omo9ja anything, it means, he is not listening.

        • Omo9ja 2 months ago

@UBFE, thanks for your analysis, I really enjoyed it.

It is very painful that you see one side of me but ignore the other side of me. Both sides are very important.

As a patriotic Nigerian who wants the best for his fatherland, I say things the way it should be.

I praise you when you do things accordingly, and I ask you to sit tight when things are not going the way it should be. That is what they call a true fan. That are the two sides of mean.

Are you both expecting me to say NFF should retain coach Paseiro?

Mba. On what basis I would do that? Did I enjoy good football at the Afcon? No. Even the final was nothing to write home about as far as I know. So, no to coach Paseiro.

If you recall, I wasn’t a coach Paseiro fan because I did not believe in him.

I appreciate one thing about him, though. He was able to achieve what Oga Rohr wasn’t achieved in six years.

Now, if NFF must be truthful to themselves, with what we saw in Ivory Coast, coach Paseiro killed our team, and he didn’t improve anything in the Super Eagles.

Having said that, why should he continue his job? On what basis?

God gave us everything to win the Afcon trophy. We scored first, and I was expecting the game to change his tactics, but he did not. Then Eagles got punished.

We saw before the Afcon when Eagles played Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and other teams. If I’m not mistaken, however, Super Eagles performed poorly in those games.

Combining those matches together with Afcon, if NFF renewed coach Paseiro’s contract, Nigeria may not qualify for the World Cup and Afcon.

Did you know the reason why South Africa coach is boasting around now?

The bafana bafana coach have studied coach Paseiro, and he discovered that he’s very predictable and beating Nigeria in front of their home fans will be a lot easier if NFF retained him.

@ Edoman. You see, my old friend, I know you love the way things are, but who can we beat with coach Paseiro’s tactics among the topthreeteams in Africa and in the world?

Do you have confidence in Oga Paseiro to the extent that he will deliver World Cup and Afcon tickets for Nigeria?

Do you think that the gaffer intentionally used Nwabali?

He was going for Uzoho even though Oga Rohr has advised coach Paseiro to put Uzoho in goal.

As you know my lovely friend Edoman, I praise you when you are doing the right and I cautious you when you are doing the wrong things. That is just me.

Nwabali is doing well now and making me proud but that doesn’t if I see one or two areas he needs to improve I should not tell him but to you Oga Rohr followers means I switch mouth a lot.

Lastly, Siasia is not cleared yet to coach any team now while Amunike is waiting.

Please don’t judge Amunike based on under 20 or under 17 teams but his capacity.

He discovered some of our best players in the Super Eagles.

If we can be patient with Oga Rohr and coach Paseiro, why can we be patient with our local coaches? It doesn’t have to be Amunike, but we should go local this time around. Sorry, coach Paseiro is not good enough to continue, period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • In other words, NFF is saying:

“Although we can’t pay his current salary of consistently, along with his demand that his 2 Portuguese assistants be paid directly by the NFF and not him doing so from his $60K salary.

“But if the FG commits and accepts to be paying the new increased wage bill (of probably around $80K now), we’ll retain him.

“… Otherwise we’ll find a cheaper indigenous option who we can be paying like $25K monthly and still owe arrears with confidence.”

    • I’m never afraid to change my position if I see a superior argument.

Critically reviewing the SE performances at the WC and our past experience when in a similar situation, it might be best to continue with Paseiro.

But he needs to seriously reconsider his negative, park the bus tactics for every opponent. He needs to find the perfect balance all-out attack and defensive mode. We need to dominate possession too sometimes. We can’t be doing average 30%.

    • Kel, if we must park the bus, let us park the bus well, even park luxurious bus too.

I am not a fan of park the bus but if you use it to win Afcon and the world cup I will not complain.

The problem I saw against Guinea Bissau and Ivory Coast is that those teams, even South Africa, found broken windows inside the bus we parked to get in and vandalise the bus.

If Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau can locate and smash our parked bus, what will happen to that bus against Brazil, Argentina or France.

The problem I see with Peseiro is that his methods – all out attack or defensive – tend to miss some crucial elements.

All out attack: we create chances and can’t convert. Park the bus: we sit back but still let in goals (the only time it worked perfectly was against Cameroon who had negligible shots on target).

So, if he wants to park the bus, fine. But don’t overwork the midfield, don’t overstretch the centre forward, effectively stop crosses from coming in.

Do you remember Nigeria vs Argentina in the 2018 World Cup? Gernot Rohr packed the bus but one cross in the dying minutes smashed the bus-window, similar to how Ivory Coast also defeated us but the cross came from the other wing this time.

In summary, Nigeria must learn where to park the bus and how to park the bus if they want the bus to park successfully. Poorly packed bus failed against Argentina in 2018 and also against Ivory Coast in 2024 from floated crosses.

      • Sportradio88.0 fm 2 months ago

In 2002 world cup wen eagles was defensive throughout go and ssee wat Argentina did to dem..

      • Deo,

Yes, it may work perfectly with sone teams and coaches like Cameroun or flop miserably Luke it did against South Africa and Cote D’Ivoire.

Cameroun was trying to gi through the middle and build up play gradually. Poor coaching tactic, which played into the game plan of Paseiro.

Against Hugo Broos, Paseiro adopted same approach. But the SA coach countered perfectly with long balls.

CIV went through the wings anchored on a ferocious attack led by the super talented Adingra who got the better of Aina on several occasions.

Perhaps Paseiro should learn to switch things up during a match with a touch line signal to the players if the opposing team finds an answer to his tactic, rather than let his team suffer for 60 minutes and fans have their heart in their mouth.

    • Sport radio,
I am not a fan of ultra defensive football but if a coach uses it to lift a trophy for Nigeria, I won’t complain.

Masterclass in defensive football was against Cameroon in this Afcon where the opposition had zero shot on target with Nigeria smashing and grabbing.

Afterall, this negative strategy helped to create a smokescreen around the goalkeeper with the illustrations created by the 4 clean sheets.

Before Afcon, Peseiro was all out attack. I had hoped he will carry on with it into the Afcon but he went defensive after just 1 match.

Honestly, Super Eagles were explosive in that first game against Equatorial Guinea. A legend in Alhassan Yusuf was almost born. But, after Peseiro went defensive, Yusuf’s ascendancy was effectively killed. He became a shadow of himself for the remainder of the tournament even causing a penalty in the semi-finals (testament to how difficult the midfield role must have been for Iwobi, Frank, Aribo to interpret).

For me, I recommend Peseiro returns to 4-3-3 or a diamond 4-4-2 in an offensive manner.

      • Going forward, SE need some more solid and rugged central defenders; strong creative midfielders & CMs and some more purposeful traditional wingers.

  • A coach his age hardly change that’s why he couldn’t find an alternative for the attacking force of Cote D’Ivore. You can’t play defensive football of 30% to Cote D’Ivore’s 70% possession for 90 Mins and expect to win. A strong attack will collapse a strong defense.
It worked against South Africa but it didn’t work against Cote D’Ivore.
It’s a pity Osimhen’s attacking acumen was weakened, creative Iwobi was forced to do more defending even he was not getting the ball to distribute to the forward 3.
Please let Paseiro go. He has tried but not good enough for our football culture.
Nigeria’s football is more attack prone.

We must not make the same mistakes we made when Oga Rohr stays with the Super Eagles for six years. Can’t we learn from the past mistakes of ours as a football nation ni?

Can’t we love ourselves as Nigerians? This is the right time to get Amunike involved.

  • Field Marshall. General. Sir Johnbob 2 months ago

CSN – What is going on?? Where the **** is my post???

For me – We could stick or twist but I will lay down a very precise framework for either –

    1) Retain Peseiro, I don’t trust what the NFF/FG will do in recruiting another manager who must be better, there will be zero sense in getting another of less or equal ability – so if they (NFF/FG) are going to let him go, they better be ready to drag in Herve Renard or Mosimane/Olise combo or even Mosimane/Ameobi combo or maybe even an Olise/Ameobi combo.

If retaining Peseiro, we must urge him OR help him, whichever fits best to stop playing and relying on Iwobi for the midfield creative role, even Frank Onyeka would have done a better job because we know he loves a tackle but he also even seemed to advance the ball better than Iwobi the few times he carried the ball forward. Alhassan Yusuf would have been the perfect answer to both questions but I don’t know what happened to him after his first game, so now I am at a loss as to what his real game is – I will be going and watching him independently to ascertain if he is that player- But let the penny drop here.. if I can go off and watch Yusuf in his club independently in the background to really pigeonhole him as a player then I am very sure that a combination of the NFF assisting Peseiro must also be able to do that, we will find out if he is that player we need for the middle creative role or not, if not we look on – there are literally thousands of players out there that could play that role and WE JUST NEED TO LOOK FOR THEM – WE WILL FIND THEM -IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE THAT PLAYER IS CURRENTLY PLYING THEIR TRADE – This is how you build a great team and become a legend while doing so – Think Westerhof.. and even more to the point this is what a manager is engaged for, to carry out such a role and perform such a function! No football team can be great without a great coach/manager so who you employ as a manager is HUGE!

Point 2)- Whoever the manager is must be tactically suave – so either they are already like that or they are willing to become like that because the way football is now, you cannot be a dinosaur type of manager anymore who sets out his stall with one or maybe 2 formations that he likes to use for whatever reason and will try to stubbornly stick to them – NO!, in the modern game, you must be able to act, react and counteract to the myriad of different opposition tactics coming at you – (Jurgen Klopp comes to mind)- He has been known to make tactical substitutions at any point during a game, 15th minute, 31st minute half time and so on..you get the drift, so we need someone who will take a little bit of time studying the game to learn how to counteract different tactics and shore up, change, attack or defend (parking the bus) as needed when needed and NEVER be recalcitrant or slow or ponderous about doing so! He will need to be a decisive and sharp mover in game play!

Finally from me, whoever is settled upon – whether we are to continue with Peseiro (which I have said I have no qualms about) or we bring in Herve Renard or the Mosimane/Olise combo, Mosimane/Ameobi combo or even an Olise/Ameobi combo or anybody else- (this is not my job to do)- I would stipulate these immutable caveats- points 1 & 2 be built SOLIDLY into the the framework as non-negotiables for the role – and if we can achieve this then trust me – it won’t be long before Nigeria and the SE’s will become the toast of the whole footballing world!

Now, I realise that this is invaluable information which I have just put out for nothing (some may say) but it is for my country so for me it is worth putting out – here’s hoping the NFF and even Peseiro can be made privy and somebody can execute – It reads easy but to make it happen is another thing – and don’t worry, y’all can thank me later. I know how things work on here – y’all NEED TO start giving credit where it’s due!

    I’m out!

Our serially incompetent Nff should tell peseiro thank you for his service and appoint amuneke ASAP! It would have been fantastic with siasia but dude is suspended by fifa because siasia was sweet as a coach who understands Nigeria football mentality! He was a multiple winner as a player and as a coach for Nigeria! For now please get amuneke because he is the best next thing. Vert soon siasia suspension will be over and he can start and be groom again as part of special assistance to siasia, fantastic options in wait, any time amuneke time ends siasia one takes over! Siasia is proven tested and trusted. Pls get amuneke now most important is that let amuneke hand pick his assistants effectively no manipulation. But would our serially incompetent Nff do the right thing for once? Ivory Coast local coach outplayed outthought and out performed coach peseiro because he understands their football. We are dead tired of heart attack football by peseiro, I barely survive it during the nations Cup, some 5 other Nigerians died. Incompetent nff, over to you.. even if we lost a match it is normal thing but to lose lives isn’t normal… get amuneke ooooo!

    • Omo9ja 2 months ago

God bless you more than your expectations, @Bestsport.

You see, gentleman, NFF is the main problem of Nigeria football.

They knew what their doing. If they hire local coach, they won’t gain anything, but if they hire foreign coaches, they gain a lot in terms of money.

This is why we are seeing them saying “FG Will Determine Peseiro’s Fate –NFF”

What is the role of the NFF? Sebi to manage our sports ba?

But just because Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria, NFF will never do the right thing. NFF is now playing a dirty game, knowing fully well that coach Paseiro can not take Nigeria anywhere. Can’t NFF see that our players are not happy?

This is the first time you will see Super Eagles players with bitterness and regrets in their minds. They knew coach Paseiro failed woefully from the beginning of the Afcon and mainly at the Afcon final. Still, NFF can not follow Ivory Coast footsteps by getting a formal player on board as soon as possible? It is a shame.

Hmmm. No wonder why Nigeria is struggling as a nation. Kai, akoba gafara ooooo. We have to be honest with ourselves kę.

They would rather allow other African countries to win the Afcon with the foreign coach in charge of the Super Eagles when we have a capable local coach who is better than the current coach.

If I may ask Nigerians, what has coach Paseiro did differently that merits him to continue his job?

As a good coach who knows what he is doing, he saw Ola Aina at Afcon very tired and exhausted but kept him on until Ivory Coast players dusted Ola while Zaidu has been fumbling around the pitch throughout the tournament when we have Bruno?

Osimhen overworked himself and was exhausted throughout the tournament and most especially at the final when we had Moffi replace him, but coach Paseiro was able to make changes until the very last minute of the match

Nigerians are blaming Iwobi for no reason. It wasn’t Iwobi’s fault, but the coach himself should be blamed for this.

Hmmm. Long story short, if NFF AJĘWOMASAN the debtor, keeps coach Paseiro. It is very clear that Nigeria may not qualify for the World Cup and Afcon because of his mismanagement.

We can see the way the South Africa coach is boasting now. He says he would stop Nigeria from going to the World Cup, which is possible. The South Africa coach almost got his wish against us at the semi-finals and was the first coach to expose Oga Paseiro before inexperienced Ivory Coast thought our foreign coach a bitter lesson at the final.

I and my colleagues on this forum have warned coach Paseiro about his selections, mainly the midfield, but he did not listen.

Dessers, Tella and Nwakali, would have added something unique to the team. But did he use Moffi and other players well in the team?

Think about Nigerians. If it hasn’t broken, then don’t break it. Let’s give Amunike a chance to take us to the promised land. NFF should start with a two years contract with coach Amunike. Within the two years, I believe coach Amunike will do more than coach Paseiro.

So the best option for us is the Amunike period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • First time in the history of CAF that the current African Player Of The Year (POTY) will not make the first 11, not even on the reserve

    bench.

Paseiro undermined Osimhen’s abilities no wonder he is completely worn out and not even sure of playing Tuesday’s champions league.
Even when Cote D’Ivore had 70% possession he had no alternative.

Please pay Paseiro his dues and let him go. We beat South Africa by sheer luck, we might not be lucky in June, home and away. Hugo Broos already knows Paseiro is a one way traffic.
He has no alternative when he faces pressure.

    • Dr. Drey 2 months ago

Stop saying things you dont know.

Kanu didn’t score a goal nor make the team of the tournament in 2000. Etoo scored only once and never made the team of the tournament in 2004. Freddie Kanoute scored only once and never made the team of the tournament in 2008. Likewise Drogba in 2010. I can go on and on.

There is no law anywhere that says AFOTY must be the best player on show at the next AFCON, on the contrary he will be the target of all opponents.

Pressing from the front, harassing opponent’s back 4, bringing teammates into play, earning penalties and helping in set pieces are also part of osihmen’s abilities, which was fully put into use at this AFCON. Osimhen alone had 22 opportunities to score, had 3 goals canceled and earned 2 penalties in this tournament accorinding statistics.

He could probably have had 6 goals in this tournament if he had a little bit more luck.

Anybody saying Paseiro undermined Osimhen’s abilities is nothing but a pure liar.

Our Achilles heel going into AFCON was our leaky defence…that same leaky defence went on to produce the MVP of the tournament and 2 of the back 4 of the CAF Team of the tournament. Credit Peserio for that too.

What would it profit you if Osimhen scored 6 goals and we got booted out of R16 like Senegal, Morrocco, Cameroon and Egypt…?

Learn to be grateful even for the littlest of things.

95% of Nigerians didn’t expect the team to qualify from the group, they went to reach the finals and climbed 14 places on the FIFA rankings back into the top 30 in the world.

Peserio isn’t an angel, but credit should be given where it is due. Eguavoen that was Coach of the Group stage at the last AFCON with his “table soccer” what did we gain from it…???

Stop saying things you dont know.

As reigning AFOTY, Kanu didn’t score a single goal nor make the team of the tournament in 2000. Etoo scored only once and never made the team of the tournament in 2004. Freddie Kanoute scored only once and never made the team of the tournament in 2008. Likewise Drogba in 2010. I can go on and on. It hasn’t reduced their legendary status oor their contributions to their teams 1 bit.

      • Where did the strong defence lead you against South Africa and Cote D’Ivore? Even when you were losing possession, a good coach should have changed tactics but not Paseiro, who stuck with his tactics.
Paseiro’s strong defence crumbled under a strong attacking machine.
The only AFCON match that Nigeria dominated was the against Cameroon and progressively weakened as the team progressed.
        Please let Paseiro go!

        • The strong defence took us to final and added silver medal to the nation AFCON medal which I believe the likes of cameroun, Egypt, Morrocco, Ghana and the likes would grab with both hands.

Let’s learn to be appreciative, sacking Peseiro right now would take the team back 5steps and I can belt the team will qualify for next WC with Peseiro as the coach.

        • Dr. Drey 2 months ago

Hahahaha….in a competition where we had 5 clean sheets and conceded only 3 goals in open play in 7 matches and ended up with a Silver medal, someone is asking us where our defence got us to…..? Or is he not referring to the same defence that everyone claimed was our weakness b4 the tournament….LMAOoo?

Can a sensible person help us answer this dude pls…..LMAOoo.

Mind you, our biggest undoing in the final wasn’t tactical, it was physical.

Up till the clanger that resulted in we conceding our 1st goal Cotedivoire was only huffing and puffing. Without going back to youtube highlights I can barely recall any sensible chance CIV had to score throught the 1st half.

And up till when our showman gk decided to throw away the basics of goalkeeping into the wind we were holding forth just fine.

A more fitter and less exhausted super eagles team would have seen off that game with the very same tactics or even added a 2nd goal towards the end of the game to kill it off like we did against Cameroon. If you blame the coach for not refreshing the team with substitutions early on, I would agree with you…..but to just rubbish his efforts as if he did nothing….LMAOoo….Mr man, you go explain that one taya ó.

And please on what merit should Amuneke be given the SE job….? On the merit of the U17 trophy we won 10 years ago…or on the merit of not qualifying for Ordinary U20 AFCON in 2017, being a part of the coaching crew who failed to qualify for 2017 AFCON and 2022 WC, being demoted to academy coach in egypt and getting fired in Zambia after leading one of the biggest clubs in the country into relegation waters….Or he should just be given because he his Amuneke….it’s his turn abi….LMAOoo.

Because really, I want to know why Amuneke’s name keeps popping up whenever the coaching job of the SE is mentioned. Oh….He qualified Tanzania for AFCON….LMAOoo…yea he did, with only the 2 matches he ever won as coach of Tanzania….YES, he only ever won 2 competitve matches as coach of Tanzania and that was it. So if it is on the merit of qualifying tanzania for AFCON (not their first time), we should rather go and hire Amr Abdou who has not only qualified both comoros and Mauritania to their 1st AFCONs, but has also taken both teams to the R16 where they both narrowly lost to their more illustrations opponents.

There MUST be a place for merit in the selection of a national team head coach. It is not a “turn by turn” business. Neither of Onigbinde, nor Amodu, nor Keshi were ever selected based on Turn by Turn sentiments.

Meanwhile, it will remain on records forever that Peserio got us a Silver medal we had no business getting I a 24 team AFCON after just 10 days of camping.

Those who are faithful (grateful) in little things will receive greater things.

Anybody wey wan explain why Peserio needs to an AFCON finalist should be sacked for a coach who has failed serially for almost a decade now go explain taya.

Like I always say, if we must sack the man on board at the moment, then we are acquiring the services of a better man….both in clout and on merit. I don’t care if it’s a Blackman or a Whiteman.

          • If using Amuneke’s antecedents as a yardstick you should ask the same question about Paseiro who failed in Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. Nigeria is the only country he coached with near success so please shut your trap and away with antecedents.
Even our Westeroff couldn’t repeat the same success in Zimbabwe after he left Nigeria.
Let Paseiro go please. He tried for us but he needs to leave to try the same luck elsewhere.

Baba your point is valid thumbs up.

          • Onwajunior 2 months ago

@Baba have you researched Peseiro’s record? He’s heads over Amuneke. He has coached over 20 teams across 4 continents, runner-up on multiple occasions, won titles as well – coached Braga to the league cup, coached the Al Ahly that went on to win the league, assistant coach at Real Madrid etc. I think he’s ok.

          • Dr. Drey 2 months ago

Onwajunior, please leave that daft ignoramus, if surfing the net for information about Peserio is too hard for him, let him continue to say things he doesn’t know.

He thinks the AFCON final is the first time peserio will lead a team to a final in his career…LMAOoo

Even if Peserio has never achieved anything in his entire career, at least he has never been demoted to academy coach from the position of headcoach….LMAOoo

Peseiro did well at the Afcon, no doubt. But for me, that tactical response is the missing tool in his box. Glaringly absent against SA, and again exposed against CIV.
Peseiro is a COOKIE CUTTER coach. If a system works, he wants to use it and use it and keep using it, even if the opponent on the pitch requires a different approach.
CIV had Kessie, Seri and Fofana in the midfield. What was he thinking playing Iwobi and Onyeka against them? What magic do expect from Onyeka on his own? Yes, he was on his own, because Iwobi, although a good player, is not a central midfielder. Iwobi is strictly an AM or a winger. That’s how he was used at Everton and now at Fulham. If Iwobi decides to continue his international career after the abuse he received on social media, he needs to be deployed where he is productive. Against CIV, playing Iwobi and Onyeka in the middle pretty much gifted the midfield to CIV. And in football, especially African football, it’s suicidal to concede control of the midfield.
All the systems are good. 4-4-2, 4-2-4, 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-3, etc. They are all good, AS LONG AS THE RIGHT PLAYERS FOR EACH SYSTEM ARE SELECTED.
For 4-4-2, playing Iwobi and a central midfielder or DM won’t work. Better to have just one DM and push Iwobi up where he is more useful, than have him playing a midfield role he is not good at. The Iwobi and a DM combo which Peseiro prefers is what made it necessary in my opinion for us to have 3 center backs. If we had 3 central midfielders, a back four would have been ok.
What will work better in a 4-4-2 system is 2 central midfielders. Select any 2 out of Ndidi, Onyeka, Yusuf and Onyedika, and we are good to go. Add Obinna Nwobodo, Ifeanyi Matthew, and you have an even wider pool to select from. These are the type of midfielders that can make 4-4-2 or 4-2-4 work.
    Just for example,
    NWABILI
    AINA, EKONG, AJAYI, BASSEY
    TELLA, ONYEKA, NDIDI, LOOKMAN
    OSIMHEN, BONIFACE
This will work because the midfield is manned by 2 PROPER midfielders, instead of just Onyeka. Tella and Lookman will have strict instructions to fall back and help the full backs when required. Iwobi can be used as a winger in a 4-4-2 formation, or as an AM in a 4-3-3 formation.
If we had played Yusuf or Onyedika alongside Onyeka in the final against CIV, the CIV midfield would not have had the dominance they had on the day, and that might have swung the game in our favour. Well, that is in the past now. Going forward, responding tactically to each opponent is the key.
Bottom line, if we’re playing 2 midfielders, we need 2 central midfielders. If we’re playing 3 midfielders, Iwobi can be the 3rd midfielder deployed in an AM role.

In this age and era, if a coach of a team especially in SE context wants to use a 2 man midfield, they must be two players that are comfortable with the ball, have the ability to mark and do the defensive work and can equally good passer of the ball.

Anyone calling for pasero sack should have his brain check. 4 months to our next WC qualifying game someone wants us to sack a silver winning coach when many did not even believed the team will make it out of the group stage. I laughed when people calling on the nff to employ a serial failure (Amuneke) as the coach.

What do Messi and Iwobi have in common? Their respective national teams have to make tactical and formation adjustments for their poor defensive qualities. However, while Messi overcompensates for his defensive frailties through his attacking prowess, no one is ever sure if Iwobi’s attacks compensate for his lack of defensive skills. Any team would make adjustments for Messi, but making adjustments for Iwobi?

As we have seen on many occasions whenever an opponent finds a way to clip our wings, SE becomes toothless. The coach and technical committee must scout for good midfielders. This is why we find it difficult to beat CIV. Talents like chukwuemaka, zeroli, Akinsanmiro should be considered.

    • Ayphillydegreat 2 months ago

Gbam @Mercy. But who is Zeroli? I’m particularly interested in that Chukwuemeka kid. I hope he chooses Nigeria. Those are the kind of foreign born talents I want in the SuperEagles. Akinsanmiro is also a good prospect. He needs to be playing though. Even if it’s a loan move to another Serie A side. He’s still in the Primavera, but he’s only 19. Same with Eletu. They’re both playing regularly in the Primavera.

As you’ve rightly ascribed we need midfielders who are comfortable with the ball at their feet. Imagine this team with JayJay and Oliseh? Or even Mikel and Onazi? We will be celebrating the AFCON win for the rest of the month.

We almost stole an AFCON with this midfield, but it was glaring that we lack finesse in that department. Onyeka was a revelation, but he’s absolutely not comfortable with the ball at his feet and horribly poor in shooting. He was mostly good in breaking up play and closing down opponents. Iwobi only function well in a 3 man midfield or as a winger. That formation simply drain him physically. They both gave their all. It wasn’t just enough at the most crucial moment.

We absolutely need players with flair in our midfield going forward. Osimhen and Lookman will flourish with a Chukwuemeka behind them or any player of suck ilk. For me we need to keep the coach if we want to qualify for the WorldCup. At least now he knows his team.

      • Mercy 2 months ago

Kelvin zeroli is a team mate of victor eletu at a Milan u19. He already made couple of appearance for the main team. Trust me, this guy is a baller. Victor Eletu and Akinsanmiro are already making in route appearance into the main teams of their respective club albeit on the bench for now. Eletu was on the bench against florentina and Rennes same with Ebenezer in inter Milan last five matches, he was on the bench thrice.

  • Nff should renew Pesiero’s contract. He deserves it. I trust Pesiero than Emmanuel Amunike. Amunike need to prove himself in flying eagles or Home-based super eagles. Pesiero should start now to scout for quality midfielders both in Nigeria and in Europe. He can visit Jones of Liverpool that declared he is a Nigerian root and other quality midfielders out there. We also need Elijah Adebayo of Luton. Elijah can bring quality to our attack. He can compete with chukueze and Simon.
