The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will arrive Abuja later today (Monday) after finishing fourth at the just concluded 2019 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger, reports Completesports.com.
The Flying Eagles lost 5-3 on penalties to South Africa who claimed the bronze title leaving seven-time champions, Nigeria with no trophy but a World Cup ticket to return home with.
It was the third time that the seven-time champions, Nigeria finished fourth in the competition. They placed fourth in 1979 and 1981 editions.
“We are leaving Niger today for Abuja,” a team source revealed to Completesports.com.
“Yes we are disappointed not to have won the third-place match but we got the World Cup ticket and we have enough time to make amends on the lapses noticed.”

Paul Aigbogun’s side recorded two wins, a draw and two defeats keeping four clean sheets at the tournament. They also scored four goals from open play.
Mali emerged champions of the 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nation on Sunday after beating Senegal 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 scoreline in regulation time.
Nigeria along with South Africa, Mali and Senegal will now begin their preparation for the Under-20 World Cup which kicks off in Poland in May.
