Ford – Work To do For England

George Ford says England still have work to do despite defeating Wales 33-19 on Sunday afternoon. The pair met at Twickenham and with the World Cup less than six weeks away, both were hoping to land a few psychological blows. England came out on top, with Billy Vunipola, Joe Cokanasiga and Luke Cowan-Dickie crossing, while Ford kicked three conversions and a trio of drop goals.

Elliott Daly nudged over a late drop goal and Eddie Jones’ side will have gained confidence from the match, especially the manner in which they dominated the set-piece. The pair meet again next Saturday in Cardiff and Ford admits his team are still far from the finished article. “It’s a good start. We said all week what a great opportunity it would be in front of a packed crowd,” Ford told Sky Sports.

“We wanted to rip in and work together, not everything was going to be perfect but we found a way. “As players we wanted to start building a winning mentality. The four new lads making their debuts today, we’ll enjoy tonight but there is still lots to work on. “We started well, lost it a little bit in the middle but the pleasing thing was we got it back. We played to our strengths, the scrum and the line-out was a massive positive today.”
