Leeds Rhinos coach Dave Furner revealed a nerve problem in Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s back resulted in him being replaced at Salford. The veteran forward made his return to action at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night having sat out the two previous matches.

However, Jones-Buchanan only lasted half of the opening period before being forced off as the Red Devils went on to record a 28-16 win against Leeds in Super League. The 37-year-old had been suffering with a back problem earlier in the season and Furner revealed that a recurrence of that issue resurfaced during the game.
He said: “It’s a nerve in his back and it runs down to his hamstring. “He trained really well and the medical staff were very confident in him. They said he was right to go. “In the first 10 minutes, I am not sure if it was in a tackle, but he said there was no strength in it. He could not push off it. “We held him out there for a little bit longer, but then we had to make some changes.”
