Gale ‘Gutted’ For All-Rounder Fisher

Andrew Gale says he is “gutted” for Yorkshire all-rounder Matthew Fisher after he suffered a shoulder injury against Derbyshire. Fisher dislocated his shoulder when diving to save a boundary in Yorkshire’s Vitality Blast loss in Chesterfield on Saturday.

The 21-year-old will be hoping the problem doesn’t rule him out for any lengthy period of time after previously battling against injury issues. His 2018 campaign was ended prematurely due to a stress fracture of the back, while he also suffered a broken thumb during a nets session in March.

Gale, who confirmed Fisher will travel to see a specialist on Monday, was reluctant to put a time frame on a return date but admitted a dislocation is “never good”. “I’m gutted for Fish. He’s dislocated his shoulder.

It’s popped out and when he’s walking off, it’s popped back in,” Gale told Yorkshire’s official website. “We’ll assess him, but I feel for the lad because he’s just started to hit his straps and has come good. Now he’s had another freakish injury.

“Until he’s seen a specialist, we’ll not know how long he’s out for. But it was dislocated, which is never good, especially with it being his right shoulder – his bowling shoulder. “Like I say, I’m gutted for him because he’s worked so hard, putting so many hours in the gym.

But it’s one injury after another, and it’s through no fault of his own. “I thought he was brilliant in the last two Championship games. “We wanted to bring him back at the right time when he was full of confidence and form. And he’s done a really good job.”
