Australia scrum-half Will Genia has confirmed he will be retiring from Test rugby following the World Cup in Japan.
Genia has played 100 Tests for the Wallabies since making his debut in 2009 against New Zealand but the 31-year-old has confirmed he will no longer be putting himself forward for selection after the World Cup.
With a young family at home and the rigours of travelling around the world with the national side, Genia feels that after his efforts in Japan he will be calling time on his international career.
“I felt the time was right not only to leave Australian rugby but also to pull up stumps and retire from Test rugby as well,” Genia said.
“There is only so much of yourself you can give … and for me I’ve got to that point. I feel I’m content with everything I’ve done.
That’s not to say I’m happy with losing and not having won Bledisloes and more trophies but when I think about my Test career I’m very happy that as it stands I’m one of only 10 people to play 100 Tests for Australia.”
