Gerrard Blasts Defender For ‘Leg-Breaking’ Tackle On Aribo

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has slammed Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous for his “leg-breaking” tackle on midfielder Joe Aribo at Ibrox on Sunday.

Porteous was sent off on the half-hour mark for a hefty challenge on Aribo.

“I know one or two things about bad tackles because I have made a few myself, so I am not in a glass house here,”Gerrard said after the game.

“It’s a wild tackle. It’s a leg-breaking tackle if he catches him.

“I don’t know why there is any reason that he wants to go in with that intent and it is the second time that he has done it against us because he done it against Lassana Coulibaly not so long ago.

“So the kid is obviously not learning and he has let his manager and his team-mates down today.

“That is obviously Jack’s (Hibernian manager Ross) business.

“There is no defending a tackle like that because the speed of it, the height of it and the force doesn’t belong on a football pitch.

“I have had to learn over the years myself as a player to learn from those types of moments of madness. So hopefully the kid learns.”

Thank God he escaped getting injured otherwise our entire first team midfield would have ruled out against CAR.

  • my heart skipped seeing the headline…thought Aribo was out aswell…wow!!! whatg a relief…lolz

  • It would have been a serious situation for the Super Eagles fans if joe aribo had been injured and had to be left out of these games but knowing coach Rohr if aribo had to be replaced in the team he would probably invite Dennis to fill his position instead of inviting promising midfielders like nwakali, nwobodo and kingsley to play in the midfield. I would have included alhassan in the list but he is out injured.
