Guardiola To Block Foden Loan Move

Man City insiders have stated Pep Guardiola will block any attempt by clubs to take Phil Foden on loan next season. Etihad chiefs are understood to have received approaches for the talented 18-year-old midfielder.

However, the Catalan boss has already made it clear he has no intention of allowing the teenager to gain more first-team minutes elsewhere. Foden has made a total of 22 appearances this term but is still to make a Premier League start for his boyhood club, but has started seven times in cup competitions, scoring six times.

That is seen by Guardiola as sufficient progress for the England Under-21 starlet, who must also compete with David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne for the creative City midfield rights.

Foden was recently rewarded with a new six-year deal but has also seen how his former academy team-mate Jadon Sancho has been recognised at senior level by England this campaign, having quit Manchester two seasons ago for Borussia Dortmund.

The Citizens have a clear understanding of how they plan to proceed with the Stockport-born prospect and he will receive plenty more opportunities next year rotating with veteran playmaker Silva.
