Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco international Achraf Hakimi could be formally tried on rape charges following a request from the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, reports Le Parisien in France (via Tribuna).
The alleged incident dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman visited Hakimi at his home after connecting via Instagram.
She later accused Hakimi of rape, and during a December 2023 face-to-face deposition, she reaffirmed her version of events.
Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, calling them part of an attempt to extort money.
Meanwhile, PSG has issued statements backing the player and trusting the judicial process.
Although Hakimi has already been placed under judicial supervision, including a ban on contacting the accuser, a prosecutor’s request for formal charges means a criminal trial could now proceed, depending on the decision of an examining magistrate.
The alleged victim’s lawyer has described the move as a significant step toward accountability.
Hakimi is currently on holiday and has been seen in the company of former teammate and Real Madrid superstar, Kylian Mbappe.
He played a key role as PSG won the UEFA Champions League for the first time after a 5-0 win against Inter Milan in the final.
The former Real Madrid star opened the scoring as PSG became the second French team, after Marseille in 1993, to be crowned champions of Europe.
However, in the FIFA Club World Cup final, Hakimi and his PSG teammates suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
