Hassenhuttl – We Must Be Proud

Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl has urged his side to be proud of their recent displays as they look to avoid the drop.

The Saints remain just one place above the relegation zone after the first 29 games of the season. Just two points separate them and 18th-placed Cardiff City as they prepare to take on Tottenham this weekend.

Hassenhuttl’s men beat Fulham before producing a gusty performance in their defeat to Manchester United. The former RB Leipzig coach admits his players deserve praise but they cannot afford to switch off.

He told the club’s official website: “The way we are playing is one thing, taking points is another thing. “We can be proud about the performance, but still at the end of the game when we were hanging onto the ropes it was not enough to defend against such a team.

“That’s what we still have to improve in our game. We are very self-critical always and try to learn and try to get better and that’s what we have to do, because Tottenham is the next big opponent.”
