Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez has returned to training as he prepares to bounce back from a knee injury this summer. The World Cup winner signed for Bayern from Atletico Madrid in March after agreeing a five-year deal until 2024. However, he was soon on the treatment table and he has spent the last three months on the sidelines.

Hernandez was back on the grass on Tuesday, with Bayern confirming he successfully completed some running workouts. The 23-year-old is hoping to return in time for the start of the new season and he is set to add some versatility to Niko Kovac’s side, with Hernandez able to play as a centre-back or left-back.
When asked about his injury, he told reporters: “(It) feels very good, I feel very good. I continue to work in small steps and hope that the medical department will soon give the go-ahead that I can start this Bundesliga season with a top level. “I will fight so that I can play this season from the beginning and so I can defend the colours of this jersey.”
