Hoffenheim are being linked with a swoop for Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos after Joelinton completed a move to Newcastle. The 22-year-old has agreed a six-year deal and moves to St James’ Park for a club-record fee, reported to be £40million, and that money can now be used to help replace the Brazilian.
Colombia international Morelos has been a star player since arriving at Ibrox in June 2017 from Finnish outfit HJK, scoring an impressive 32 goals from 65 Scottish Premiership appearances. Such form has caught the eye of Hoffenheim, but as things stand no offer has been made. Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has moved quickly to play down all rumours.
Asked if the club are confident they can keep the frontman, Robertson replied: “Listen, we’ll see what happens. There have been no bids for Alfredo so far. He’s started the season well with four goals in two games. “He’s playing with a smile on his face, so he looks happy to be here and we’re delighted to have him.”
