2023 AFCONQ: How Super Eagles Rated In Slim Win Vs Guinea-Bissau

Completesports.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the performance of Super Eagles players in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in Bissau on Monday night…

FRANCIS UZOHO 6/10
The Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper was largely untested in the game. He denied the hosts a chance of claiming an equaliser in the second half.

BRIGHT OSAYI-SAMUEL 8/10
No doubt the man of the match for the Super Eagles. The Fenerbahce man won the penalty that was converted by Moses Simon for the winning goal.

KENNETH OMERUO 7/10
The centre-back was denied by Jonas Mendes early on. Showed his experience and made things easy for his fellow defenders.

SEMI AJAYI 7/10
Proved his worth with an excellent display. The West Brom man showed calmness on the ball and was solid at the back.

ZAIDU SANUSI: 6/10
The left-back was caught napping defensively a couple of times. He however supported the attack well.

FRANK ONYEKA 6/10
The Brentford midfielder took the place of Wilfred Ndidi and put up an impressive performance.

ALEX IWOBI 7/10
He controlled things in the middle. A good outing from the Everton man.

MOSES SIMON 7/10
The winger scored the decisive goal from the spot on the half hour mark. He showed flashes of brilliance in the game.

SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE 5/10
A below-par showing from the Villarreal winger. He didn’t measure up to standard in the game.

TEREM MOFFI 4/10
The striker was largely anonymous in the game. He was replaced by Joe Aribo on 61 minutes.

VICTOR OSIMHEN 7/10
Fought really hard but couldn’t get a goal in the game. Osimhen was denied by the woodwork and had a shot saved in the second half.

SUBSTITUTES

JOE ARIBO 5/10
The Southampton midfileder was denied by a terrific save from Jonas Mendes few minutes after replacing the ineffective Terem Moffi.

WILFRED NDIDI
Ndidi helped keep things tight in the midfiled after replacing Samuel Chukwueze.

I think the motive of inviting Musa was to make him the highest capped Nigerian player ever a height or numbers no player will dream to achieve at least not for the forseeable future.
Apparently,he’s okay flying to and from wasting task payers impoverished monies just to run around lethargically sluggish contributing nothing for 2 to 3 minutes and the numbers keeps pilling MENTAL!!!

    • MONKEY POST 1 year ago

@GREENTURF you are my MAN so please don’t let me come at you with this MUSA ARGUMENT you are trying to cause..

You even have the GUTS to INSULT HIM?

      SMH…

    • Ololo 1 year ago

I think Musa deserves some respect from us Nigerians.. he is the leader of the team and helps to talk to the younger player.. he has always done well each time he comes in to play.. the coach knows his value and keeps inviting him.. let’s give him some respect that he deserves

      • Truetalk 1 year ago

Point of correction..NFF are the ones inviting Musa not the coaches..we must always tell ourselves the truth so we can move forward as a nation…

LMFAO! So @GREENTURF you had to go and CHANGE your USERNAME?

    • If given opportunity Mo-Post, who will make your starting 11 between Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ola Aina?

      • MONKEY POST 1 year ago

        @DEO who is OLA AINA?

Is HE a FOOTBALLER or HE PLAYS AYO OLOPON?(a LOCAL GAME among the YORUBA’S)

I have NEVER HEARD of that NAME before

      • Ololo 1 year ago

Ola aino brings something different to the team.. if I was the coach I will shift aino to the left back position( sanusi doesn’t offer much offensively) thrn retain Samuel at the right back

      • MONKEY POST 1 year ago

        LMFAO…

But like SERIOUSLY @DEO it will be OSAYI SAMUEL in my STARTING 11 anytime any day bro….

But like SERIOUSLY @DEO it will be OSAYI SAMUEL in my STARTING 11 for the RIGHT BACK POSITION anytime any day bro….

The only joy I got from that match is the discovery of Bright Osayi, the right back. Finally SE have gotten a world class right back in the mould of Mobil Oparaku. Aina will have to up his game to deputise him. Our left side is still shallow and shaky. Zaidu Sanisu seem not to fit into the type of world class Left back the SE need. Another Observation I made was the lack of creativity in the final third. That’s why SE not scoring. SE is full of half baked DM . So much work to be done in Midfield..Only IWobi fit into our dream SE midfielder. Coach pls go find midfielders home and abroad. We shouldn’t focus on top five leagues. Look at bright Osayi from Turkey but playing better than those from top five.

    • Ola Aina can fit into one of our DM’S , he is very smooth on the ball and being a defender it will be easy for him to adjust to DM position

  • Am not very surprised at Chikwueze rating, he has always been a selfish and half-hearted in his service at super Eagles. Congratulation to the boys.

    • Coache 1 year ago

He dares not play like that for Villarreal, him go chop bench for months. Somebody that his game should be going up for Nigeria with age is now snowballing to U17 uncouth footballer. These displays are why we struggle at the apogee of football. Shame to Chukwueze.

      • Smiley 1 year ago

Coache, thank you so much. I’m glad you noticed too. He always seems like the unfinished product, which unfortunately, doesn’t look like it will ever be finished. To add to your points, he balloons over the bar, when all he needs to do to fix that is to always remind himself to aim at the grass. Will he ever figure that out. You think that at this level he will or someone in the coaching crew will, but don’t bet on it. He will continue to make the team and continue blasting chances over.

  • So apart from penalty they could not score from open play both home and away.

    • Omo Naija 1 year ago

Bros lots of goal scoring chances were created,we don’t struggle to create chances (which is at least a good thing), the problem is converting our numerous chances into goals…that was the story on both legs. Osimhen was culpable for missing some very easy opportunities, and he scores the more difficult ones at Napoli which is baffling.

  • MONKEY POST 1 year ago

This MOSES SIMON(even tho HE SCORED the PENALTY) is still PLAYING CHICKEN REPUBLIC FOOTBAL with all of HIS PURPOSELESS CROSSES…

CHUCKWUEZE is still not LEFT OUT…

And OSIMHEN still haven’t LEARN how to be CALM..

    Always too ANXIOUS..

Always not TIMING HIS RUN(Too much OFFSIDE from HIM)

And WHY does HE want to always SCORE SPECTACULAR GOALS or GOALS from a DIFFICULT and TIGHT ANGLE?

Is it just the NATIONAL TEAM that HE BRING all these TRAITS or HE also does that in NAPOLI?

And finally I will like to say that WE need a very Good CREATIVE MIDFIELDER/PLAYMAKER

  • Selfmade KING 1 year ago

The SITE PLANNER aka the site engineer saves his job for another match day lol

  • BALA 1 year ago

Whats all this noise about bright, he is crap. Ola and ebuhei are way better. All he does is want to dribble and run up and down leaving his position vulnerable. Go back and watch the replay. He was the one that banged into the Bissau player. All of them deserves to be in the under 23. Nothing professional about this team.

    • You mean Nigeria didn’t deserve the penalty, and the referee should have awarded a freekick against us instead?

Haba, bros. Osayi was voted man of the match in Abuja, despite Nigeria losing. Mind you, that was his first competitive match for Nigeria and first time playing in Nigeria. New on team, yet voted MOTM. That one nah luck?

He won us a penalty and won us another one in the friendly against Portugal last year, which that ITK Emmanuel Dennis wasted.

“All he does is want to dribble and run up and down leaving his position vulnerable,” according to you. Yet it gave us 3 points today and reclaim of the group leadership.

    • Four four two 1 year ago

Your comment is puerile, unprofessional and hollow. I will therefore not magnifify it with a precious response

  • @Bala I am surprised you said that. Osayi is world class.

    Going Forward

    1. Let us stop using bassey at central defence. Omeruo, ajayi, ekong, onyarmechi, akpoguna and any other good recruit in Europe should be jostling for positions at central defense. The defense was good today. Omeruo should be playing regularly at central for us now..semi is also growing up too.

    2. Bassey should always play at left back. I think that is where his strength lies at the moment. He needs time to gain the maturity to play at central defense. Himself and sanusi should man that position for now

    3. What is wrong with ndidi? I hope he comes back into his old self. I am still not really convinced about onyeka. He needs to go to a team where he can play regularly. Is Kingsley Michael still playing. That boy impressed me then against cape Verde away.

    4. Right back. Settled. Osayi and aina are good..we even have ebueyi. That position is settled.

    5. Central Midfield. Iwobi is good. He is playing as a leader now. Even contesting for balls. Good. We still need a deputy for him or someone who can play along with him depending on the pattern the coach is playing. Nwobodo, alhasan should be checked out. This coach and nff should stop the sentiment.

    6. Simon should always play ahead of ademola. Ademola is finding it difficult with African football. I am surprised. But Moses is far ahead of him. Moses is also doing more of attack now. I believe ademola will still find his form with eagles. He is a good player. For now let him under Study Simon. Is ejuke still playing. We have more options for that position in Europe

    7. Chukwueze is good but the coach needs to help him. He won’t do what he is doing at Villarreal or with westerhof. Siasia did it then and lost his place permanently to amokachi. Oshimen should also have a chat with him before Every game they are playing together. The captain can also talk to him too. Sometimes, many people have to play that role for a player. With 11 goals and 11 assist in la Liga. He is good. He needs to be helped.

    8. With 442 the coach always want to play another striker to support Oshimen. Not bad but not every striker can do that work diligently. This is the problem with the coach. Moffi and onuachu can’t do that efficiently because of the way they play. They Re both out and out stinkers. They don’t have the skill set to do that. They Re not like amokachi, siasia, ideye (in 2013). Some years ago we tried to use Richard owubokiri and yekini together with owubokiri supporting yekini. It failed despite owubokiri scoring freely in europe. This is where the clueless coach should have tried out orban. He looks like someone who can play that role very well. There is also okeke in Italy. Sodiq will even do a better job than moffi and onuachu. Moffi and onuachu should only start when Oshimen is not available. Awoniyi will also do a better job than them. Though I believe orban will do well in this position.

    9. Oshimen. Well . He is still far ahead of all of them. Though he needs help too. He should bury simple chances. He is not using his head for eagles. He scores goals with his head for Napoli. Agreed the supply is different. He should start scoring difficult goals for eagles. That’s what great players do. Yekini was doing that during his days.

    10. Goal keeper. Hmmm, we are stuck with him for now. I pray another talent is discovered. I pray he also stay fit..I have always said he is better than okoye. And okoye needs time to come good.

  • If I was peseiro I will put in u20 no 7 haliu sarki, u23 no 10 ogunniyi omojesu and gift or an in that team .

Play omo jesu as no 10. Sarki on 7 and orban in Moffi position.

The team will play better and I will revert back to 4-2-3-1

No one is talking about Osimhen’s inability to always watch his line when waiting for the ball in the final third. He’s got the tendency of killing his team’s drift towards the opponents goal area by falling victim of offside traps. I’ve watched this a lot about him and it’s quite worrisome. Osimhen was caught offside yesterday more then 3 times, and one or two of these could have possibly resulted into at least a goal. He did it multiple times against STP in Agafir, Morrocvo, and even against Serra Leone in the first match. While he seems to be improving on this at the club level, the freedom he’s got in the national team isn’t helping him to address this problem.

It baffles me to see Chukwueze still very childish with his final ball. He likes playing to the gallery and showing his runs and dribbling skills than scoring for the team. In a moment of madness yesterday, he made an open show of a needless curling skill, and when the line was easily cleared by GBU, we almost ended up conceding a goal around 75 minutes with a dangerous free kick against us very close to the box. I was surprised Peseiro kept him that long on the field of play. It’s high time the coach started addressing these now because to me, they are some of the reason the team has been struggling of late.

Kudos to Peseiro for giving us Osayi Sanuel. This guy is awesome, combining the agility of Mobi Oparaku and Jero Shakpoke with the speed and skill of Benefict Iroha. My anger is why did he it take us so long to discover this guy? I mean, he’s always been there for the taking. We may have probably been saved of the shame and early exit suffered at the Egypt 2021 with Ola Aina’s ball-watching stance as the thunder bullet from a Tunisian striker sent us parking from the competition.

Osayi Samuel would have probably gave that guy a run for his money instead of ‘oya-take-it’attitude of OlA Aina. How does NFF’s scouting system work? Who are those in charge and how do they discover players for the national team? There are many Osayi-Samuels out there waiting to be called. But who will plead their cause?

A coach being paid by the NFF once said he didn’t know a player who scored a hat trick in the Confeence League, a player with 12 goals in 9 games in Begium, a league being transmitted by DSTV every weekend. A player fully honoured by UEFA for scoring a perfect hat trick in their competition. Isn’t that funny?

Eguaveon displayed same level of ignorance in 2021, sayimg he had to go to The Natherlands and possibly, Conrefernce League matches, before he could invite arguably Nigeria’s best player in Europe at the time: Dessers. But he didn’t go to South Africa to invite Olisa Ndah or to Germany to invite Awoniyi. Hmmmmmmm……Nigeria and her of pack of clowns.

Until we have a standard and fair policy of getting players into national team or effective criteria of appointing and paying their coaches, we will continue to struggle in the international scene.

The big mistake GB made was taking Nigeria to a good pitch. On a good pitch, Nigeria is always likely to carry the day. If the Abuja pitch was any good, the SE would have played much better, and the result would likely have been in our favour.
What we now have to somehow stomach is the fact that GB has a better pitch than Nigeria. LOOOL!
I no fit shout. NFF, how market?
Osimhen was so unfortunate not to get a goal. That shot that hit the post must have missed by a cat’s whisker. And I agree with all the comments about Osayi Samuel. The guy is a breath of fresh air. Ebuehi should deputize him, while Aina should be moved to left back. I also liked Omeruo and Ajayi today. Kept it nice and tight at the back, no nonsense defending, kept things simple.
Chuks was full of endeavor, but his inability to use his right foot continues to be his achilles heel. Way too predictable, the way he always cuts back to his left. Every defender in the world knows that is what he is going to do. As long as the defender can match his strength and pace, it’s a wrap for Chuks. He has to start using that right foot in order to give defenders more to think about.
With Orban, Akpom, Boniface, Tella and possibly Success coming in, this team will definitely get better. Osimhen will have quality all around him, and that is when he is at his best.

There are many factors which made Super Eagles were beaten by Guinea Bissaua; fristly, Jose Peseiro until now is not going to sovle SE defensive midfield and center midfield with strong tactic and chosing for them quality and strong players; I think the players must choose for the next fixtures are Okechukwue Azubiuke, Danga, Anderson Esiti onstead of shaky Ndidi and Oneyka in defensive midfield; in center defence he must recall Agbalaka, Francis Benjamine, Igho Egbo, than recalling Kevin Akpoguma; Peseiro must play with strong and ferocious defensive midfielder who have strong tackles and head diuels and covering with eagle eye, also he must merger tow strong and ferocious oyibo in SE center defence like Agbalaka and Francis Bejamine; secondly Peseiro lacked playing in depth with bad creativity of Chukwueze and Iheancho, so Peseiro must recall Michael Olise to creat playing in depth; thirdly, Mashood Abiola is an under grade stadium with bad turf, hard fans; Peseiro must change Sao Tome & Principe next match in November 2023 at Godwill Akpabio Stadium, cause it is World class one has good turf, good weather, good fans, so all World Cup qualification 2026 matches must be played at this excellent stadium; fourthly, there is not a code of conducts which obligate the players to perform so strong as they perform at their clubs look for Osimhen, Moffi,Chukwueze,Lookman all they performed lower and lower when you look at them at their clubs they score many goals or assist many chances for their colleagues; so this code of conducts obligateany player when he recalled to SE must do or perform like he does at his club, cause this you home jersy that you must die for it, any player must not obligate , he must be excluded from SE team for a length of time then he can return back with new dedication and determination and committment.

Bright osayi.. the guy is very strong nd mobile more than Aina… Aina lack that attacking threats when it’s necessary.. he was one d reason why we no qualify for that world cup when he was use.. he have every chance to push more forward for attack to deliver crosses but he failed… But bright osayi does everything right…

I heard and watched Osayi Sam the first time in the first leg at Abuja I quickly went to YouTube to watch him, omo the guy nah good dribbler of the ball I was so happy that he was invited to the super eagles. He did not do badly at all
