Terriers Lining Up Keeper Swoop

Huddersfield are being linked with a gsummer swoop to sin Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood on a free transfer. Terriers chief Jan Siewert recently confirmed that he is already preparing for life back in the Championship after the side’s relegation was rubberstamped following a defeat at Crystal Palace on March 30.

And with Jonas Lossl expected to depart the John Smith’s Stadium, Siewert has axed him for the first team for the past three matches and given Ben Hamer a chance to shine between the sticks. However, the 31-year-old has shipped eight goals in the past two matches and came in for some criticism during the recent 4-1 home defeat against Leicester.

As a result, Siewert is looking at an experienced shot-stopper to come in this summer and it seems Westwood is top of the wanted list. The 34-year-old Republic of Ireland custodian has come in from the cold at Hillsborough since Steve Bruce replaced Jos Luhukay in the managerial hotseat and has conceded just 14 goals in 19 games.

Bruce will no doubt be keen to keep Westwood on board this summer, but Town will be able to offer him a lucrative deal as they will have parachute payments behind them and Lossl’s wages off the bill when he makes his expected departure.
