Former England forward, Paul Merson, doesn’t fancy Arsenal defender Ben White making the Three Lions squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
White who plays either as centre-back or right-back, has not made an appearance for the Three Lions since their 3-0 win over Ivory Coast on March 29 at Wembley Stadium.
In his Sportskeeda column, Merson while previewing Leeds United vs Arsenal Premier League game billed for this Sunday, appraised White’s recent form and dismissed the 25-year-old’s 2022 World Cup chances.
“I don’t think Ben White will make it to the World Cup squad, because he’s been playing at right-back,” Merson said.

“Tomoyasu was outstanding against Salah. Arteta changed around last week and Tomoyasu marked him out of the game.”
“Arsenal are a team where everyone is playing to best of his ability. For now, a top-four finish is the target, but if they know what they’re doing, who knows? What’s the point of playing in the Premier League if you can’t dream?”
White has made four appearances for England. He has recorded one assist in nine Premier League games this season.
England are in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Wales, Iran and the United States of America.
